Queens of the Stone Age | New Album News

Post by zeb »

Queens of the Stone Age “locked in” and working on new material, says frontman Josh Homme

Alt-rock icons to return the same lineup from 2013’s ...Like Clockwork

Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme has been focusing on a number of other projects in recent years, releasing new albums with Eagles of Death Metal (2015’s Zipper Down) and Iggy Pop (this year’s Post Pop Depression). But as UltimateGuitar.com notes, Homme seems ready to get back into the studio with QOTSA and record the group’s first album since 2013’s …Like Clockwork.

Homme first mentioned his plans to reunite the band on a recent episode of the Let There Be Talk podcast, saying, “Yeah, [a QOTSA return is up next on my schedule]. Same lineup, we’re locked in. We’re having a meeting tomorrow about what we’re gonna do.” This is promising news for fans who were disheartened when bassist Michael Shuman revealed in March 2015 that the band would be “taking a break” after two long years of touring. The band did reunite in September for a surprise concert at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles, but this is the first confirmation that they have actually begun working on new material.

The “same lineup” Homme referenced in the podcast likely refers to the lineup featured on 2013’s …Like Clockwork. This means that it will include guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen, who is also currently involved in supergroup Gone Is Gone, but probably won’t feature ex-QOTSA bassist Nick Oliveri, who briefly reunited with the band onstage in 2014.

This is fantastic. I feel like Homme is in a zone of sorts. Like Clockwork was top notch.

Has it been three years? Holy cow time flies. I was listening to it just the other day marveling at how fresh it sounds.

After frontman Josh Homme announced that Queens of the Stone Age are back in work mode, guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen now confirmed the boys will definitely start recording a new album by the end of the year.

Troy said on 2 Hours With Matt Pinfield: "We've already started talking about what we're gonna do next for the next Queens record.

"There's tons of ideas that are bouncing around. We're going to do something before the end of the year, as far as recording goes.

"We're excited to get back together to follow-up [2013's] '...Like Clockwork,' which was a really, really big record for us, personally. It was a big record for us 'cause it was the hardest record to make. And we're trying to not do that again. We just want to keep things simpler and try that, I guess."

Troy also noted that the Mastodon/QOTSA supergroup Gone Is Gone, which he's a member of, was forced to cancel some of the upcoming shows due to scheduling conflicts, which could have something to do with the new QOTSA album.

Homme previously said: "Yeah, [QOTSA return is up next on my schedule]. Same lineup, we're locked in. We're having a meeting tomorrow about what we're gonna do."

Stay tuned...

Like clockwork is a weird name for an album that was hard to make. I think a fresh approach would be better anyway, Like Clockwork is okay but we don't need another one.

Not fair to compare them to Pearl Jam, they aren't lazy enough.

I haven't started the replacements book yet, though it is sitting on my coffee table. There are a few books ahead of it. It's pretty thick...
