Re: The Cure
Yeah? I guess I haven't paid close attention to the recent live stuff but aren't they both just standard rhythm players?

Re: The Cure
Nah, I think Reeves' playing has been filling out their sound massively. He gets to cut loose and play skronky, noisy lead guitar in songs like Never Enough, Wrong Number and From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea but also seems to be adding some really great textural stuff in subtle ways to other songs. His playing and tone is a lot more thoughtful and interesting than I ever found Perry's.

Re: The Cure
In the 4 times I've seen The Cure live, Roger has always struck me as oddly impersonal onstage, which is a quality I typically DGaF about.
Also, 39 straight into Bloodflowers was magical for me last night... HIGHLY unexpected! I don't get why this album gets so much hate. Those songs and OoTW are epic journeys in the same league with the songs which originally hooked me onto this band (Show/Paris). Well, in any case, I hope you get what you want in Adelaide... I definitely got more than I could ask for in Denver!

Additional tickets for all three MSG shows were put up on Ticketmaster today for anyone interested. Managed to grab a 200 level side seat for Saturday's show.

Also, there's nothing more recent than the two songs from 1996's Wild Mood Swings in the whole thing, can't think of the last time they played a show where wasn't at least one song from the last few records (period-themed shows excepted, eg. Reflections, Trilogy).

Chicago night 2 (11 June):
The lyrics are full of cliched, anti-religion bluster - it's like Robert recently discovered the athiest subreddit:
"Because you don't know, you don't know, you don't know
You just want it all true
No, you don't know, you don't know, you don't know
You just have to say you do
You can't really know, you can only believe, ignorance borne of deceit
The only angels you should hear are reason, honesty, equality and love
The only devils you should fear are hate and anger that scream in a world full of people scared dumb"
It's terrible.
The other new one's pretty good though.

That sounds almost as bad as the lyrics to "Where the Birds Always Sing".

Re: The Cure
Unpopular opinion time: I much prefer the re-recorded 1986 vocals to "Boys Don't Cry" over the original

Fun fact: the new-vocals '86 version has never been released on CD or otherwise available digitally.theplatypus wrote:Unpopular opinion time: I much prefer the re-recorded 1986 vocals to "Boys Don't Cry" over the original
It's been so long since I heard it that I can't remember if I prefer it or not.
My own unpopular Cure opinions:
- Push really, really sucks.
- Disintegration is OK but it's not as good as the albums released either side of it (Kiss Me & Wish).
- Wild Mood Swings is full of great songs.

Totally agree with your 'unpopular opinion' #3 there. Considering using Gone as a morning wake-up song for my daughter.Birds in Hell wrote:Fun fact: the new-vocals '86 version has never been released on CD or otherwise available digitally.theplatypus wrote:Unpopular opinion time: I much prefer the re-recorded 1986 vocals to "Boys Don't Cry" over the original

I've been on a huge Cure kick lately, getting prepped for July. So may great albums from these fellows.

I love Gone, such a great song. Like quite a few others from that album, it hasn't been played since the corresponding tour. Would love to see The 13th or Strange Attraction thrown into the 'pop' encore!
Me too and I (of course) wholeheartedly agree.William Bloke wrote:I've been on a huge Cure kick lately, getting prepped for July. So may great albums from these fellows.

Just got into the Garden. Looking forward to the show tonight. Already worried I may enjoy it so much that I try to scrounge up a ticket later for tomorrow's show.
