REAL TALK: Attrition, A Thousand Days Before and Non-State Actor compare favourably to almost everything off DOTU.

Non-State Actor might be my least favorite song off King Animal. But on the other hand, the run of A Thousand Days Before > Blood on the Valley Floor > Bones of Birds > Taree > Attrition was worth them coming back. It might not be as good as Superunknown or DOTU but it's still damn good.zeb wrote:REAL TALK: Attrition, A Thousand Days Before and Non-State Actor compare favourably to almost everything off DOTU.
And honestly, I'm not sure Soundgarden is capable of creating anything that can compare with DOTU because DOTU is incredible.

For the next album, more A Thousand Days Before/Attrition, less Halfway There/Rowing.

I'd also put Bones of Birds in that list too.

We gotta get together as a society and agree not to bump this thread till there is something to report on the new album.

What’s the status of Soundgarden now?
We’re on a writing break now. We’re going to reconvene pretty soon and start writing again. We’ve had a couple of those sessions already. Then in a few weeks we get back together and write some more and pick studios and make the next record.
So it’s still pretty early in the process?
Well, in the process of coming up with songs, we’re kind of halfway into it. But with us, you never know how long that could take. Every time we’ve ever recorded a record, we have way more songs than we actually put on that record. The self-imposed deadline of, “okay, now let’s book studio time,” that’s when you’re far into it. I’m sure after the next session, probably before the next session, that’s when we’ll decide studio time.

Re: Soundgarden | New Album News [2016?]
I think it's funny how, as bands get further removed from their creative prime, they seem to invent more and more preliminary "steps" that seem to require completion prior to just buckling down and making it happen. "We're on a writing break." "We're in the 'idea stage'." "We're in the process of..." and then they name some thing that isn't a "process" at all but a thinly veiled attempt to make doing nothing sound purposeful. Seems like when a band is really locked in, all these things that otherwise require so much forethought and procedure just sort of happen...

They are in that space in lives when their wives let them know when it OK to begin the creative process. The phrase "but you just played with them six months ago" is often uttered.
