The sweetener is aspertame. At three cans a day, I'd be scared of cancer, but that's rooted more in unfounded fear than anything backed by hard data.

Re: your 15% overweight -- Zero calorie foods and beverages are tricky here. As implied, they don't directly add any calories, and with 0 grams of carbohydrate, you shouldn't expect any weight as a direct result of your consumption. What's harder to pinpoint is how these foods effect your overall appetite. There is compelling research that foods flavored with "artificial" or "natural" flavors trick your body into thinking you are getting vital nutrients, and that your requirement of these nutrients is then satiated, when in reality you've taken in no nutritional content, and now have no appetite for it. I'd suggest eating something light and healthy with/before your soda, and see what that does to your craving.

Off topic, but--I get nervous about posting when the moderators come around. It's silly, but-- It's like jr high, when we (kids) were laughing it up at the lunch table and everybody would get quiet when a teacher (or monitor lady) would walk by.
