Yeah, he has an MVP and Rookie of the Year, a whole bunch of Gold Gloves, has the single-season hit record, is on the verge of 3000 hits and is widely recognized as one of the best pure hitters of all time. He was one of the most recognizable faces in baseball for a decade and will be a no-doubt, first-ballot Hall of Famer.
The career hits thing is a fun little factoid, but I don't think we need to make up a record just because some people don't fully recognize how great he was.

I lived in Seattle and had season tickets during Ichiro's prime. As a fan that has been going to MLB games regularly since I was 5 or 6, I can say that only Rickey Henderson was more exciting to watch. And the fact that Ichiro is only 21 hits away from 3,000 MLB hits is what I wish everyone was talking about considering how old he was when he started playing here.
Man I loved watching that guy run out a little dinker down the third base line.

It's pretty amazing that he even approached 3000 hits.

Yeah, I saw many errors made on routine grounders because the SS was rushing the play.
It made routine grounders so much fun to watch. And they were always plays where the SS would play it as a standard groundball, then halfway through his throwing motion he would realize it's too late and make a panic/rush throw.
