Re: Vault #6: 7/13/98 LA Forum show
It's a less exciting choice than a 1998 show we didn't already have a great sounding ALD/AUD mix available for but it's an excellent show.
As well as being the original home of the LO2L version of DTE, Ed's introductory "that was an old song, this is a new song - it's evolution, baby" comment makes more sense following Jeremy than it does Nothingman which wasn't really that old in 1998.
If they don't have enough complete shows to justify a standalone release from 1994, 1995 or 1996, I'd be thrilled with a well-chosen compilation from each.

Three months seems outlandishly quick for one of these Vault releases, wasn't the last one (or the one before that) announced ten months before shipping or something nuts?wease wrote:Damn. I think that last one went down that way because a bunch of bootleggers put up the las vegas show all over the internet. PJ came back and fought it by releasing an official versionBirds in Hell wrote:Three months seems outlandishly quick for one of these Vault releases, wasn't the last one (or the one before that) announced ten months before shipping or something nuts?wease wrote:Damn. Yeah and there was the vinyl bootleg of the same show that appeared in stores a month or so before the official one

January 2017 is technically after 9/1/16, and I imagine that's closer to when this will actually arrive.Birds in Hell wrote:Three months seems outlandishly quick for one of these Vault releases, wasn't the last one (or the one before that) announced ten months before shipping or something nuts?wease wrote:Damn. Isn't the Hartford boot a soundboard recording? I believe its the complete show, maybe that will get a vinyl release at some point.ridleybradout wrote:You have indeed CT. Not having heard the existing bootleg of this show, I'm pretty excited about this. Sucks to have to wait until September.

I really consider ALD/AUD matrixes to be audience recordings. The audience recording is high quality, and the "compromised" mono ALD feed is used to beef up the center of the stereo image and make it more "upfront". If you look at it the other way around, you are really just adding stereo room ambience to crappy mono board feed.

Besides, if there is part of a song missing because of a tape change, they really don't have to delete it at all. They could patch it with a different performance, or with the audience tape if you are a purist.
There are easy ways around all of the "problems" they cite for not releasing complete (or almost complete) shows. It's just laziness.

Depending on what's mostly complete from a 96 show, why not splice in the missing/damaged songs from a different incomplete show on the same tour? Dylan did it on this release, so I think so long as you're upfront about not having a complete show the fans understand.Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:That would take effort.PHATJ wrote:I'd be thrilled with that too.Birds in Hell wrote: If they don't have enough complete shows to justify a standalone release from 1994, 1995 or 1996, I'd be thrilled with a well-chosen compilation from each.

And the Dylan 1966 set has "fills" from a different recording, not a different show, and this was done because Dylan preferred the sound of the film crew's incomplete recording, so it's a totally different situation. I don't like the result because the changes are too obvious, but you can get the complete multi-track source (which doesn't need patches) as an internal promo (much like the "Lost Dogs outtakes" thing). You can also get the Sheffield acoustic set as a perfect internal promo and it's pretty amazing. Hopefully they will be releasing *all* of the 1966 shows in the not too distant future.

They did:
29 shows in 94
42 shows in 95
34 shows in 96
You mean to tell me they don't have ONE complete show from all of those?

Well, we know they've got 4/2 and 4/3/94 and that radio broadcast show from Australia in March, '95. Surely they've still got those Monkeywrench shows that were broadcast in the US in '95 like Soldier Field.

This does not prove a complete multi-track recording exists.wease wrote:Well, we know they've got 4/2 and 4/3/94 and that radio broadcast show from Australia in March, '95. Surely they've still got those Monkeywrench shows that were broadcast in the US in '95 like Soldier Field.

Re: Vault #6: 7/13/98 LA Forum show
I spoke with Brett (sound guy) at the 11/25/96 show, and at that time he told me they possessed (at minimum) complete dat stereo recordings directly from the live mix of every show the band had ever played up to that point.
