In general, Tupac and Biggie don't do much of anything for me.

often times I wonder if they would be considered the best ever had they not died young

I really love Crash Test Dummies, especially the album "Songs of the Unforgiven". It is their masterpiece. "God Shuffled His Feet" is a really great record too. I understand they are quirky, and Brad Roberts' voice is either a love/hate thing, but when they hit they hit really strong.

A ton of people thought so before they died young. So, yeah. I think they would. It's so much more about when they showed up and what they inspired.

I don't even think they're close to the best of their era, let alone all time.

Nor do I.

But a lot of people that do, thought so before they died. That's all I'm saying.

And I'm certainly no expert on the subject so couldn't say one way or the other. But it became very set in stone after they died. Who knows what they would be doing now.

I like Tupac. Don't like Biggie much at all.

Agreed. And Tupac's voice is still the gold standard hip hop voice for my ears.

My biggest issue with Tupac is some of the verses he sang in Digital Underground directly contradicted what he became.

Now I clown around when I hang around with the Underground
Girls use to frown, say I'm down, when I come around
gas me and when they pass me they use to diss me
harrass me, but now they ask me if they can kiss me
Get some fame, people change, wanna live they life high
same song, can't go wrong, if I play the nice guy

(clamin that they must have changed, just because we came strong)
I remain, still the same (why Tu'?) cause it's the same song

that one specifically.

I feel the same way about Roger Daltry.

Andy Wood has gotten a lot of mileage (years after his death) out of the fact that he was friends with much better musicians.
