Yea, I think he really shot himself in the foot here. There's still time for him to backpedal, but not for much longer.

although Ryan likely despises Trump he will need to appeal to Trump's supporters for his own forthcoming failed presidential nomination

i hope that a few years from now we just look back at this for what it is - Trump's nomination is burst of maggots exploding from a dead animal's carcass and the marker post that a once live and functioning creature has disintegrated

years of hubris, manipulation, and lack of decency has left the republican party with a horde of incoherent feral animals to call their voter base

John Lewis certainly did not begin this as a publicity stunt. And I do not believe it is. That said, this is the first time during Obama's time in office that I have seen (as far as I can remember) Democrats actually fight - real protest - for something they really believe in. The bills themselves are weak and probably symbolic at best, and the degree to which they are willing to fight is obviously not known yet. A one day sit-in will perk us up for a day or two... I've not had much confidence in the Democratic party for a long time, but if they continue to protest and earn a victory here, maybe it will inspire them to stop pointing fingers and take better action.

Of course it's a publicity stunt. Look no further than Waters statement - "until hell freezes over (or a day, whichever comes first)." Nothing will come out of this - your own comment on the bills reflects this. "Symbolic".
