Woke up this morning to an email saying that "James" had liked my review of a book on Goodreads. I don't have a James on my friendlist so I figured it was some rando. Nope, it was James Renner, the guy who wrote the book.

Have you read his book and/or blog and/or interviews he's done regarding Maura Murray?

I'm not surprised one bit that he liked your review.

I literally walked into the library, saw the cover, and said, "I should read that book." Didn't know who he was or anything. Though I am going to read his other books, I had come to that conclusion before he liked the review because he's got a great style.

Now I'm going to have to find his book/blog/interviews, aren't I.

He has such an interesting background and connection to obsession. The Maura Murray case is fascinating, not just in the facts of the unsolved case, but also in the way it's obsessed people.

Like the Shinning. This one is good so far. Some Dark Tower references.

Everything with Danny was great. Everything with the RV cult was upsetting in a way that King has never quite done before. All the talk about their elderly bowels and whatnot...

Not a fan of this book. Pretty uninteresting and flat compared to so much of Stephen King's more recent output. It was fine but I was expecting a lot more out of it.

Not a fan of this book. Pretty uninteresting and flat compared to so much of Stephen King's more recent output. It was fine but I was expecting a lot more out of it.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I've already said this, but I think this is one half of an excellent King book. I'm surprised he was able to give a grown-up version of Danny that was so perfectly flawed yet likable. I just hated the villains. The girl with the top hat was ridiculous.

My only issues were the hippy names and lingo for the villains which didn't make much sense to me and the

ease at which the good guys were willing to gun them down. It was very helpful that the bodies just disappeared.

I really liked the characters and that the prose was almost entirely free of the King ticks that annoy me. The latter probably made this the most enjoyable book of his for me to read.

Interesting. I feel like this book was only King's ticks that annoy me. We obviously have different things that annoy us about King.

Yeah, and I remember liking it more than Galveston. But neither has really stuck with me besides the feeling of, "Oh, these are nice."
