That's probably true, but they've never used a soundboard recording for the official boots, only multi-track recordings of which there would seem to be far fewer (or, where they do exist, they're incomplete).

Berlin '96. It's already out there too, so should be a low effort release. Good show, too.

How do you figure it would be any different from the Sony promo we've had for 20 years?

Question: My version of this, which I recorded off the live-air the WBCN carried, had this really nasty distortion noise that would kick in above the entire recording. Is this on all versions, or is this something specific to the WBCN feed?
The promo is perfect quality, like LO2L or anything else the band has released. There is no need for any FM broadcast.

I have serious doubts that the Summerfest shows, being festival dates, were recorded from the soundboard. All recordings that I have heard from that day that were made by the sound crew are audience recordings. Hopefully I'm wrong though.

Also, the Manilla track on the PJ20 soundtrack is very clearly an audience recording, as well as that shitty promo boot that they gave out with S/T where they opened for Keith Richards, so we know that it's not *entirely* true that they recorded every show from the soundboard, unless there was a good reason for using an audience recording in those instances.

correct. soundboard mixes are captured at the desk with the levels of each mic/person set for the room, not for the captured mix. You need to capture each individual input pre soundboard, so you can adjust levels after

I'm saying that we already have it in perfect quality, and there are tons of shows that we don't have at all, so why would you want the same thing again?

If the "vault" consisted of something other than CDRs in cardboard envelopes, it would be cool to see some of those classic shows get canonized, such as it is. But in the current format, I'd much rather look at Brad's artwork on my shelf.

I want a lot of things, but the request was "wish there was a '96 Vault release", and based on the history it's mostly shows we already have in some way, so Berlin '96 would be the most likely selection from a band that puts as little effort into their back catalog as humanly possible.

That's true, but all of the vault releases they've put out so far (including Boston '94, Drop In The Park) were things that we didn't have at all, or things that we didn't have in good quality (Las Vegas, Bellingham, Los Angeles).

They haven't raped us yet with something completely redundant, though I really wish they would put out the 2005 and 2006 boots in CD format, damnit.

Las Vegas was the first Vault release and Bellingham aired on Sirius years prior. I thought both of those were essentially reruns.

He means we didn't have either of those in FLAC. I just hope Constitution Hall 1995-01-14 isn't coming up as the token Jack show.

I'd love them to release a non south pacific 1998 show that isn't 3-5-98.

The word non shouldn't be there. My bad. That's what happens when you reword your post a couple times before submitting.
