Not really a ranker. I digest music in full albums or collections (usually B-sides) and don't always like separating a song from a full piece. Sure I have some favorites but with this band in particular it's quite a few for varying reasons while continually hinging on mood.

That said, I'm really digging Graceless lately.

It's almost impossible to rank out songs by The National. I always feel like whichever song I'm listening to is my favorite. They are really a remarkable band.

I'm not doing this, but I expected to see at least one Karen. You know, for the "cock in hand," line alone.

I'd be more up for picking 10-13 B-sides that could make a cohesive album. They've amassed 20 now (with one track released in two versions) I believe and I could see that being a fun affair.

Let's see it! ...and a list of the 20 songs would be a good starting point.

7. The National - Driver, Surprise Me (3:20)
8. The National - Keep It Upstairs (4:18)
9. The National - High Beams (3:57)
10. The National - You've Done It Again, Virginia (3:04)
11. The National - The Thrilling Of Claire (4:32)
12. The National - Minor Star Of Rome (3:27)
13. The National - Tall Saint (Demo) (3:45)
14. The National - Rest of Years (Demo) (3:41)
15. The National - Blank Slate (3:17)
16. The National - Santa Clara (4:06)
17. The National - You've Done It Again, Virginia feat Sufjan Stevens (3:09)
18. The National - Forever After Days (Demo) (3:01)
19. The National - So Far Around The Bend (3:43)
20. The National - Sin-Eaters (3:39)
21. The National - You Were A Kindness (4:25)
22. The National - Wake Up Your Saints (4:14)
23. The National - Walk Off (2:40)
24. The National - Think You Can Wait (4:37)
25. The National - Exile Vilify (4:45)

All those items were released, even the demos.
Minor Star of Rome was off the Believe Music 2006 comp and High Beams off the Music for Robots comp, IIRC.

Edit: A lot of the themes and lyrics running through the earlier tracks pop up across many tracks as well.
