His Yardbirds, Bluesbreakers, and Dominoes work is all stellar. I can't begin to guess how heroin and alcoholism turned him sleepier than a post-1980 David Gilmour extended solo, but there you have it.

I can't think of anything worse than to go through the loss he did here. To criticise the song from that angle feels really shitty to me.

Eric Clapton means nothing to me, which may be why I have no misgivings about professing my fondness for his "Unplugged" album while being totally ambivalent about virtually everything else he's ever done.

That version of "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" is lovely.
