A really crucial detail about the upcoming EU referendum has gone virtually unmentioned and it is probably the most crucial detail: Parliament doesn't actually have to bring Britain out of the EU if the public votes for it.

That is because the result of June 23 referendum on Britain's EU membership is not legally binding. Instead, it is merely advisory, and, in theory, could be totally ignored by UK government.

What is the point of this? I see it everywhere. Yes, old people will die sooner. Should their vote count less because they will die earlier? "lucky" bastards.

And as you pointed out earlier, great numbers of those currently young and idealistic voters will probably drift towards more sensible and conservative views over time.

Why do old people even bother voting? They'll just be dead soon anyway. the old people are just trolling.

Seeing as some lies in the Leave campaign are surfacing already, many Leave voters reporting regret coupled with a potentially unstable UK (and EU and then subsequent probable depression in England) then a second referendum is a possibility. I don't believe the government would just over rule the public wish.

Additionally, I have seen a report stating that if the result was under 60% (51.8%) and the voting turnout was under 75% (71%) then a second referendum can be forced.

There's a lot of sketchy reports being made so who knows what is and what will never be.

1,269,501 vote victory for "Leave"

so if 1,269,501 votes / 2 = 634,750 people changed their vote to "Remain", it would be a tie

634,750 / 64,100,000 = 1% of the population

so 1% of the UK population is the determining factor in whether the UK remains in the EU or leaves ... ?

what's the margin of error on this voting process?
how many people have second thoughts now?
how many people couldn't make it to the polls that day and regret not voting?

for a 1% victory on a non legally binding yet vote, it seems like politicians are going to have grey area in which they could wrangle to preserve the will of the minority of the opulent and the majority of the millennial
