It's fucking epic. It's Greek Tragedy for our age. In one hundred years people won't believe it's true. If the whole thing hadn't been videotaped, people wouldn't believe it now.
Any idea who propagated the notion that televising the trial would be a good thing for American culture? They touched on that idea only briefly in the doc, and I wish they had explored it more. Was it basically just CNN and Los Angeles County agreeing that this would be a good thing? Did the trial lawyers have any say in the matter?
My understanding is that The People (meaning the prosecution and specifically the DA, Gil Garcetti) wanted everything above board because of race-relations at the time. He requested that it be televised to show everyone how the justice system worked and to keep transparency. The court (Ito) agreed and here we are.
There are a lot of sources (and this is touched on a bit in the docu-drama 'The People v OJ Simpson' that recently aired) that Ito was a bit of star fucker and wanted to be on TV.

Yea, I remember that about Ito from when it all went down, though they didn't really get into that in the doc.
They totally ignored all the weird stuff with Ito. Other than Marcia's few comments about how he let the defense get away with stuff they shouldn't have, there was just about nothing in there about him. Well, that, and that one small clip where Larry King went to visit him for lunch.
Heart of the Sea, Ron Howard's Moby Dick origin story.
Better than expected considering it was a box office bust. It's not a perfect movie by any mean (Chris Helms miscast, annoying filter, too CGI-y at times and starts to bog down once the sailors are adrift) but enjoyable enough for the most part.
Such a great treat. Watched so many films lately not even worth posting to warn you about.
This was great. Ian mckellan and Anthony Hopkins against the backdrop of one night among a touring troupe, backstage at a Shakespeare play. It's wonderful. Gotta think Hopkins is up for an Oscar nod for this. He deserves one. Can't say more without spoiling it. It flies by too.
It's touching in parts but overall a pleasure to watch Two serious well trained heavyweight actors work their magic.
