Totally agreed 4/5. This whole "rings or you're shit" line of thinking is definitely the chief cause of all this.

Yup, unfortunately, the media and fans have made that he number one indicator of a player's legacy.

I must have missed the part where LBJ choked a 3-1 lead to the KG Celtics in the conference finals only to sign with them the next year. It's not the same thing.
while agree it is not the same thing along those lines it is the same thing as to going to a team where you are not the "only" superstar in the hopes of winning a title.

as a reminder, here is what he said 7 days after lebron left the cavs

“Now everybody wanna play for the heat and the Lakers? Let’s go back to being competitive and going at these peoples!”

had he never tweeted this i would have no problem, but it makes him look just like he accused lebron as just chasing a ring

Has your opinion of your place of work changed in 6 years? Have you changed your mind about something since 2010? The tweet is a bad look for sure, but it is definitely no Boy Scout TV Special.

Lebron's stock - in my book - raised considerably given that the Cavs overcame a 3-1 deficit in the Finals against a team it was not favored to beat.

lets first define workplace.

are we talking his job as a basketball player in the NBA or OKC?

the thing is he blasted LBJ for the mentality of i cant win on my own or with what i have so i am going to go to a team where i think we have a better chance to win it all.

what did KD do? same exact thing.

Job as a basketball player for OKC. He thought they had what it took to win it all. It easy to say what he said when your team is young and on the verge of big things. Due to injuries, bad luck, and lack of clutch play his team wasn't able to win it all.

i agree. which is the crux of what my problem is with KD. he fired at LBJ said basically, why do you have to punk out and go join another team chasing a title

Ive been thinking about this and trying to figure out why it doesn't bother me about Durant, but admittedly did with Lebron. This is the best I could come up with and I know it's pretty hypocritical, but oh well.

Durant is an entirely different situation than Lebron to Miami was, even outside of presentation in my opinion. Kevin Durant is a great basketball player that is going to be a hall of famer. But that's it. Kevin Durant was never going to be this generations Jordan, Magic, Kobe or Wilt. He's Malone, Isiah, Robinson, etc. He isn't the Iconic Legend that needs to "do it on his own" to cement his legacy. Because his legacy will always be "great basketball player".

Lebron IS that Legend, and was ordained that when he was 17. He HAD to do it on his own... and when he went to Miami it felt like he was shirking that part of his responsibility. People were disappointed that maybe they weren't getting the guy they thought they had been sold.

Solid theory skitch. It helps that Lebron's decision was before Durant and he shouldered a lot of the criticism.

Whats the difference between a 2 year 40 mil contract v a 2 year 50 mil contract when you factor in the Florida v Colorado tax situation?
