I haven't listened to regular old radio in so long. I checked it out recently out of curiosity. As far as I can tell, "modern rock" radio doesn't exist anymore. There are a couple of stations here that play 90s alt rock hits mixed with that new folky, stompy shit, but I wouldn't call that modern or rock. Otherwise it's still the same old pop, country, and Led Zeppelin.

It's also the 20th anniversary of me seeing that video for the first time on late night TV as a "filler bumper" and thinking it was a Saturday Night Live sketch.

The new Band of Horses record is really good. Way better than Mirage Rock.

"Really good" is the sort of measured assessment I didn't ever expect I'd see in a Durden post

There were a lot of songs about cheating on your spouse in the late seventies/early 80s. Wonder why.

The first two that come to my mind are the Piña Colada song and "Babooshka" by Kate Bush

It actually reminded me a bit of Metallica's Death Magnetic in that it felt like a bunch of disparate song sections that could be moved around and rearranged and it wouldn't really make a difference. There's even one track that's a straight-up country-pop radio song.
Death Magnetic is really underrated, it's pretty damn good.
I don't know what to make of that statement. The production alone makes it nearly unlistenable.
