I have grown quite a bit over the last 5 or so years as it comes to tolerance and acceptance. So it bothers the fuck out of me when literally every single "stolen credit card buying thousands of dollars gift cards to launder the money" customer that comes into the store has been black.

The officer who shot Philando is the son of a man who works at my school. The father is one of the nicest people on the planet. He's like the living embodiment of the kind Mexican patriarch. He calls me Mr. even though he's 20 years my senior. I never had his son (the officer) in class, but he was a super nice kid, too. Didn't think this situation could be anymore heartbreaking than it was.

Yup. If you raise entire generations by telling them that they are the victims of unseen oppression, that hatred towards them is in their country's DNA, stereotype them as thugs, ghettoize their culture, and then place in them into the echo chamber of reactionary hate that is social media, this is the only result. And it is literally the worst thing they could have done if the goal is stop police from treating young black men differently because now every cop out there has an excuse. It will be sad to watch the progressive commentators try to perform the pretzel-like logic twisting that morally equates the tragedies that befell those two men earlier in the week with snipers firing on police who were protecting a protest.

This is like the ultimate Broken Iris post. It's got everything: light concern-trolling, "social media echo chamber", logic pretzels, and subtly nasty undertones. It's like a N&D sampler platter

I take umbrage with your suggestion that it's the fault of black people.

In this instance, it's the fault of a black power group. But that was an attack on progressive social engineering, not black people. They are the group being twisted by this combination of systemic oppression and political manipulation. And it's awful naive to think that constant trashing of cops and insinuation that they are waging a war on black people isn't going to have lasting psychological effects on already vulnerable populations and not lead to dangerous rationalizations for committing retaliatory violence.

How so? You don't think this will magnify police profiling of BLM protesters and young black man in general? That cops won't be far more aggressive with their treatment of black suspects as a result? That the next time a cop feels remotely threatened by a young black man he won't think of revenge? That bigoted jurists won't latch on to this as a justification for automatically siding with cops?

i see someone elderly struggling to reach something on a shelf i have stopped and said let me help you sir/ma'am

talking to people who are older than and i dont know their name i address them as sir or ma'am

not because i am scared for my life but because i show respect to those who deserve it
