Black lives matter! Blue lives matter! All lives matter! Nope....
Sorry folks, we don't really believe any of that. Our lives matter. Our immediate family's lives matter. Our friend's lives matter somewhat. Co-workers, a bit.
What about Iraqi children walking past a high value target? No. Anyone in an Isis controlled area? No. Low wage workers including child labor to make our colorful high tech wonder clothing and phones who may work around dangerous substances and in structurally deficient buildings? No. What about the 200+ people who died in the Turkish airport attacks last week? I've already forgotten them. What about just Americans? We care about their lives right? How many million children live in poverty here? 30 million or so don't get enough to eat supposedly. So we don't care about them much. What about other drivers? When we get in a rush or every single time we look at our phones their lives don't matter. Slow down and save a life while in a construction zone? Certainly not. I don't and if I'm not driving somewhere I'm standing in one every day. The list is pretty long. 60%+ of Americans agreed that should a passenger plane get hijacked again it should be shot down before it can kill more people. Very few lives matter. That's our actual slogan.

In a free society, the notion of people who are supposed to protect us and uphold our laws potentially resorting to violence if we're not respectful is insane and unacceptable. End of story.

The thing is that what LV said is an oversimplification of things and not when happens in the real world. Specifically as he worded it, yes, not smiling at a cop or not saying "sir" is no justification for violence. But remmebr the officer has no idea if you are freind or foe at the time of the stop and disrespecting, antagonizing, or even taunting during a stop is going to further escalate what is already a tense situation and helps neither side. Showing cops the same amount of respect you would show to some on the street when you need directions is really not a lot to ask.

i see someone elderly struggling to reach something on a shelf i have stopped and said let me help you sir/ma'am

talking to people who are older than and i dont know their name i address them as sir or ma'am

not because i am scared for my life but because i show respect to those who deserve it

this is absolutely true. A warning, or maybe they sit int he back of the cop car for a couple minutes. I have a few friends who went through this in their high school/college days.

That doesn't mean it's NOT true, but just as I wouldn't take the police's story as gospel, I am not taking hers. That's my biggest concern with this whole situation. Her account is being reported as FACT. and those FACTS may have made another man feel justified in shooting 10 uninvolved people. We (a collective internet mob of all races) need to rein in these instant rage filled reactions based on limited information and one potentially one sided rhetoric. The rage we express and allow might feel cathartic but in most cases is wholly unnecessary and a lot of times are another situation of HEY THIS IS ABOUT ME!.

And when we people feel like the masses are behind them in an emotional response, thats when mob mentality takes over and someone things its okay to shoot innocent people, or throw a brick through a window or whatever other nonsense. And of course thats a small minority. But when you make that small minority of crazy folk feel empowered and justified in their rage, they're capable of anything.

of course i agree with it, i just dont see it happening as it is a pipe dream. turn facebook blue, support black lives, whatever you want to do that is not going to end anything.

at the end of the day there are going to be good and bad cops and good and bad people. when a the positives entwine with negatives it is not going to be a good situation.

at best i think people can wish for a verbal confrontation but i dont think that is the world we live in

I would suggest that in the vast, overwhelming majority of cases, they are, in fact, exactly that.

What's interesting in this situation that I haven't heard a lot about is that apparently the police used a robot with an explosive strapped to it to kill one of the attackers. I was unaware cops had those, I thought they were .gov only.
