Watched the firs two episodes.
It's fine.
Winona Ryder needs to calm. the. fuck. down. I haven't seen that level of overacting in a long time.

I feel like I would be franticly overacting in that situation myself. She's fine.
Super 8 and his mostly inept aping of Steven Spielberg. This is better, even as it sticks closer to the tropes.durdencommatyler wrote:Expand please.BurtReynolds wrote:This show makes me hate JJ Abrams even more.

Disagree on both counts.
But especially Ryder. It would be fine if we ever saw her not freaking the fuck out. There is no "world before" for her. She's goddamn manic and unreasonable and over the top from frame one. She now has nowhere to go. It's acting 101 and she just failed the class.

Plus wasn't it mentioned that she was a little nutso before? Can't remember.

Yeah, I think her son mentioned an anxiety disorder. I had no problems with her acting.BurtReynolds wrote:nah.durdencommatyler wrote:Ah.BurtReynolds wrote:I feel like I would be franticly overacting in that situation myself. She's fine.

Re: TV: Stranger Things
eh it's an ok show. Some of the characters are annoying. The black kid is a douche, and the older sister and the jock are boring. Get on with it! This is going to turn into another X-files or Lost isn't it? Just dragging it out and then lame ending. Hopefully not.

Supposedly some of this was filmed partially around my hometown.
Another show I want to check out at some point. How do you people watch so much tv, particularly binge viewing?

Re: TV: Stranger Things
Yeah, I'm not sure what you guys see in this show. I've seen the first 3 episodes and so far it isn't scary, interesting or intriguing at all. Yeah, the cast is good, and the 80s setting + score is kind of cool, but it has all the menace and atmosphere of an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark.

Re: TV: Stranger Things
The premise is interesting. The 80s tone is fun. The kids good (11 is GREAT). The rest of the acting is spotty. Winona Ryder is the worst part of the show. But I'm not 100% invested. It's more about seeing what happens. It's less than all the other things its been compared to: Twin Peaks, The X-Files, Super 8, The Goonies, etc.
But I am enjoying the show (after 2 episodes). I don't dislike it. There's enough there to keep me watching. But if you're wanting to be frightened or whatever, this is the wrong show for you.
