I guess I'm naive as fuck. But it still shocks me. And it's turned me off the service. I'm hardly ever on Twitter anymore. It's just awful. Who has the time/desire to be a part of that "community"?

It's a playground for the lowest common denominator. I shouldn't be, but I'm completely amazed by the scorched earth racism. Unapologetic, scorched earth racism.
oh god, twitter is an endless stream of internet tough guys like soma, isn't it?

Its an SJW/MRA/racist hellscape, and the very concept of limiting tweets to 140 characters makes for a venue of pure hatred and bile, but as long as idiots are on there who have money, I will spam to them.

But hey, at least it's no Tumblr.

And so's Lament. All of whom I love with all my heart. I have no idea how they navigate and enjoy Twitter, though. I'm glad they do. The place is better for having them. But I don't know how they do it.

Oh my God you guys, Twitter is fucking amazing. I love it as a source for commentary, news, and all kinds of creative work. It's not any more or less a "cesspool" than just about any other social media or content aggregator. No shit there's all kinds of scumbags on there, but you guys know you can curate who you follow and interact with, right? It can be hell when you're targeted, like Leslie Jones was, and it has serious problems to address when it comes to dealing with abuse. But it's been a huge positive for me, and connected me with all kinds of awesome people.

Having the option to turn off trending hashtags on the side would help, but there it is, just sitting there, inviting you to witness humanity's true face.

Also, once they changed it and it stopped being most recent first and Twitter started curating for me and showing me "while you were a way" or putting top trending items ahead of the most recent items, it really jumped the shark. That's contraty to the spirit of Twitter and just ruined anything I really liked about it outside of my few friends and couple funny celebs.

I think they scaled that back a lot, at least compared to Facebook and Instagram. Instagram is almost unusable since they changed last month. It's probably the only reason I still use Twitter at all.

Go to Settings, uncheck "Show me the best tweets first". It'll still show you "While you were away..." at the top, but those tend to be tweets I'm happy not to have missed. Except when it shows me Skitch's baseball jokes.

Twitter is just overwhelming if you aren't on it constantly. So many missed tweets.

Yeah all of social media can be overwhelming and soulsucking and obnoxious and terrible. I try to limit my time on all of it. Instagram was my go-to but even that's gotten frustrating for me.
