Re: 10th album rumors and speculation
those predictions are pretty spooky accurate.
if a Uke song is on there, i hope it's a fleshed out instrumental of Waving Palms. love that track.
seems like i remember an interview with Ed saying that it was a sketch of a song that he didn't know what to do with, but felt like it belonged. maybe he took it to the band and they worked something out with it.

PJ also just gave his review of the songs he heard from the album in the comments section of our story from yesterday, “The last two records have been billed in the pre album hype machine as their best since Vitalogy… except this one legitimately is. I’ve heard 4 songs. Shit is hot fire.” He also reiterated the points he made in late May regarding the announcement.

I do enjoy a good flame when the poster can't spell. No amount of pictures will ever cover up that embarrassment.

Re: 10th album rumors and speculation
if there's a uke song, I'm guessing it will be 'Loud uke', the one he played live a few times. If that's the case, the uke-haters can chill out because it's a uke melody played through a distortian pedal, and consequently, just sounds like an electric guitar.

Not sure if this is the right thread, not sure if it was mentioned but they also created a Facebook event. Edmonton in Canada is the only place mentioned but it says its a worldwide event.

This invalidates the rest of your post.Thenews15 wrote:Is it me or is anybody else having serious doubts about this record. I just have an uneasy gut feeling. My expectations are low. Let me explain. The seem happier and more filled with energy, more creative outside of PJ now days. And as the song has been discribed as a "Spin the Black Circle" type, that doesn't excite me as much. For me "Spin" has just been ok, never been a big fan of their punk style. It just doesn't showcase their greatness as a band and plus now days they are 50, punk seems forced at that age. It seems the only fast songs Ed can write these days are punk songs, but that's kind of been done to death by them 10 albums in. There's only so much you can do with punk.
Also, with the rumors of a Uke song being one there that doesn't add excitement. I loved "Uke Songs" but that's better off being on an Ed record. It's weird, it wasn't good enough to put on his solo record but good enough to be on a PJ record? That seems concerning to me. I kind of think Ed has to much control of the band sometimes, which is why Stone has just released a solo effort. So, all in all my expectations are pretty low. I mean 10 albums in bands just don't release great records, they usually have 5-6 great records. I'm ok with that, they still rock live and that's all that matters. I suspect there will be about 4 good songs, not great but good on this new one. 3-4 ok songs and 2-4 bad songs. That's still a pretty good percentage. I admit I am a glass is half empty guy, but what are your expectations and with the rumors do they excite you?

Re: 10th album rumors and speculation
I'd be Ok with a uke song on the new PJ album. The uke 'tradition' started with PJ, on Binaural. And yeah, he branched out and did an album full of them but nobody promised the uke would now be relegated entirely to solo stuff. And I think 'Soon Forget' is a good song which fits thematically and conceptually on Binaural. If we get that again, it might just be the one quirky song that sounds nothing like the rest and a lot of bands do that (Deftones, with their one electronica-type song per album, for example). Hey, a lot of people found Speed of Sound the most interesting and creatively arranged (if not the most successful) song off Backspacer. My main concern is that this thing hangs together and this album works as a piece. If so, I won't freak out too much about its parts. I think. Because I might.

i would normally agree but the reworked can't keep is so much better than the uke version that I'm open to it.

Maybe they'll play a show and broadcast on the internet! They could play the new album. That could be fun. Or they realised they shouldn't be adding tour dates yet.dimejinky99 wrote:Not sure if this is the right thread, not sure if it was mentioned but they also created a Facebook event. I am also apprehensive about an uke song we've heard already wasting space on the record but the riot act can't keep is the best song on the album for me so we'll see. If its a new uke song then bring it on.

Wasn't the first Can't Keep on acoustic guitar? From that thing with Beck... I can't recall.
