Being that Vitalogy is the best rock album of the last 20 years, all albums can only be "since Vitalogy"

The seem happier and more filled with energy, more creative outside of PJ now days. And as the song has been discribed as a "Spin the Black Circle" type, that doesn't excite me as much. For me "Spin" has just been ok, never been a big fan of their punk style. It just doesn't showcase their greatness as a band and plus now days they are 50, punk seems forced at that age. It seems the only fast songs Ed can write these days are punk songs, but that's kind of been done to death by them 10 albums in. There's only so much you can do with punk.

Also, with the rumors of a Uke song being one there that doesn't add excitement. I loved "Uke Songs" but that's better off being on an Ed record. It's weird, it wasn't good enough to put on his solo record but good enough to be on a PJ record? That seems concerning to me. I kind of think Ed has to much control of the band sometimes, which is why Stone has just released a solo effort. So, all in all my expectations are pretty low. I mean 10 albums in bands just don't release great records, they usually have 5-6 great records. I'm ok with that, they still rock live and that's all that matters. I suspect there will be about 4 good songs, not great but good on this new one. 3-4 ok songs and 2-4 bad songs. That's still a pretty good percentage. I admit I am a glass is half empty guy, but what are your expectations and with the rumors do they excite you?
I'm probably an outlier on this board, but my expectations are high. I enjoyed the last two records, and while I am as impatient as everyone else for a new album I am assuming that everyone else's creative energy that they sparked outside of the band will only make the music better.

And, as always, if a pearl jam album produces 4-6 songs that become part of my canon, and the rest make for an enjoyable album listen I'll be more than happy. that's been every record since Vitalogy, and all I really want from them (although I'd be happy with more)

A streaming live show would be cool. Doubt it's new songs that would get played though?
Unless its the album getting streamed. Also unlikely as much as it would be cool of them.

i dont know if my expectations are high, but my hopes and excitement surely are, im ready to get this album in what ever form i can and take that ride in the car that ive been doing for the last 3 or 4 just driving where ever i do and giving it a listen a couple of times through.

i didnt mean for that to rhyme at the end

I can't help thinking that an Internet stream 'party' would be a terrible idea from Pearl Jam unless everyone was sure they had a brilliant album. I can imagine people giving negative comments one after another -- 'wow, that song was almost good', 'this is getting boring now', 'disappointing' etc. -- and eventually all logging off before it was finished.

That sounds a bit like RM group think, and you may be right. But I'd still think it'd be appreciated by everyone else. An awful lot of music news outlets here have picked up and covered the countdown story. RM isn't really representitive of the fanbase as a whole, and PJ have picked up a lot of new fans with the last two records, I'd say this countdown is more directed towards that interest rather than the hardcores. They know we're gonna buy it anyways. They couldn't give a shit whether we like it or not after that.

Yeah, even if you're being flippant, I really wouldn't expect that kind of reaction to an unannounced live set of new material. For the most part, people here genuinely do like Pearl Jam (to varying extents.)

Since all the other information that guy provided was spot-on, I expect he's right about this announcement too and it'll be album details (tracklisting, release date) and US tour dates.

Well im excited. I hope to be a fan boy again soon.

I am really hoping that tickets for this tour dont go on sale withint he next two weeks. An im also hoping there is somewhat of a real tour and not 10 east coast shows, and a couple out west.

a 25 to 30 show tour would be pretty good, but i doubt we will ever see 50+ US shows again, i dont think they can or want to do it anymore

Just hoping to see something different. Some out of the way shows, or places they dont usually play would be nice to see. No festivals. Etc.

Also, im so tied up with other finances right now. :(

Most impressively, the majority of those tapes appear to be from a single date.

PJ also just gave his review of the songs he heard from the album in the comments section of our story from yesterday, “The last two records have been billed in the pre album hype machine as their best since Vitalogy… except this one legitimately is. I’ve heard 4 songs. Shit is hot fire.” He also reiterated the points he made in late May regarding the announcement.

4 songs and the guy's already annointing it the best since Vitalogy? :haha:

I've been toiling around today with various RSS readers and noticed this favicon for PJ's non-working RSS feed:

I noticed it a week ago on the regular 10C bookmark, but it was gone after a day. Interlocking M's for "Mind Your Manners."

This is more or less how I look at it and also has the side benefit of being realistic.

Perhaps the worst thing that could have happened expectations-wise was someone saying it's their best since Vitalogy. Grain of salt.

But shit if that doesn't get my dumbass excited. :bammer:

A song from Ukulele Songs will supposedly be on the new album.
Yeah, I sure hope 4 years was enough time to write 11-13 new songs, with that many creative people involved. Otherwise, I worry that the shit will fail to be hot fire.
