Only the last shot of Blair Witch (the standing in the corner thing).

Re: The Cinematic Motion Picture News Thread
Blair Witch ruined scary movies for me...not because it was so great but because it made it terribly clear how much more horrible my imagination is than any horror film creation.
After seeing that, every scary movie felt like such a snooze. "Here's a scary thing," they cried.
"Pfft," I sighed. "I assumed worse."
Blair Witch was a corny attempt to recognize what every other horror movie is too dumb to get: the more you reveal, the less creepy it gets. Instead, it mostly just succeeded in proving that most people don't have an imagination.

All I remember of the Blair Witch was being bored and nauseous and then the last few minutes it got scary and then it was over.

All I could think while watching it was "yup, this is guy Ritchie movie. It just happens to be set in medieval England."bada wrote:I couldn't get through the King Arthur trailer.
Doesn't make it any better, just makes me wish it was RocknRolla2 instead.
It more scared me after reading what the ending actually was more than watching it the first time. If that doesn't make sense, let me try again:Rangi Guy wrote:Blair Witch 1 is the only movie to give me the genuine scaresBurtReynolds wrote:Blair Witch 2 wasn't bad. Blair Witch 1 was bad.
Watching it the first time was scary enough. Then I saw on reddit years later what the last scene was about (missed some context clues and I only watched it once) and that made the movie even scarier. Weird, since I wasn't watching it.
Yeah, that part.Simple Torture wrote:Only the last shot of Blair Witch (the standing in the corner thing).

I was mentally fucked up for a few days after seeing Blair Witch. I haven't felt that way from any other horror movie since. Ive tried. Part of it was the next day me and a couple buddies drove out to Colorado to go camping but...McParadigm wrote:Blair Witch ruined scary movies for me...not because it was so great but because it made it terribly clear how much more horrible my imagination is than any horror film creation.

I never understood why people were so afraid of Blair Witch. I like the movie, mostly from a production value point of view...scary? Im not sure.

Yeah I like Blair Witch but never found it to be exceptionally scary. It has its moments, but it doesn't freak me out the way other horror movies in its wake have.

Not that I watch a lot of horror films any more, but it's one of only a few that HAVE scared me. The "scare" moments in most of the others are so, so dumb.
That said, I don't think BW affected me in the theater much. It was in the days afterwards, when my mind kept drifting back to those unseen or merely implied things, and the wondering and imagining started.
I had basically the same experience with Sarah Palin's VP candidacy.
