Re: The Work-Out Thread
I met a girl who is into fitness who said that because she is health conscious, when she has a hamburger she doesn't use a bun. I had to bit my tongue to stop from laughing. Then we went for a 5km jog.

10 miles in 75 minutes
105 when I left the house. Took it easy, but not too easy. 38 out, then picked it up on the return. Took no water, but stopped at a water fountain beside the canal with about 3 miles left. Water was ice cold and I ended up drinking for almost a minute. Quarter-mile finishing sprint. 37 back. Pretty happy with this one considering the temp.

Saturday late morning, 6 mi in 54 min. nice long, steady run.
Monday night 5 mi in 45:20. Struggled first half, but zoned out and even had a baby fininshing kick.
i felt good about myself that i powered through a side cramp and dead legs for a decent run.

Sometimes the buns are just too big and it feels like you're eating more bread than meat. More than once I've taken patty out and eaten it like a hamburger steak.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
Doubled for the first time today. Did 8 miles. The last 4 I ran about 10pm tonight on the treadmill and they felt pretty damn good, legs weren't heavy. I don't think its a good idea to do it more than a few times a week but this is definitely something I can handle and will hopefully pay some dividends down the road.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
Got my last scheduled workout for a few days in last night. Focused more on the upper body but I did do some light legs and a little over a mile on the treadmill.
I had been looking forward to running/walking the Peachtree Road Race tomorrow. The 10k one of Atlanta's big holiday events and it's a lot of fun even for the casual runner (
). It was someting I always wanted to do once and I've done the last ten. The forecast for tomorrow morning is rain, heavy at times. While I'm going to get up at 6am at check to see there's any chance the rain will hold off it's looking like I'm going to get to sleep in on the 4th for the first time in a decade.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
ok.
BF% 28 (i was actually shocked, figured it to be low to mid 30s)
Percent Lean 72%
EST RMR - 2079 (heart rate monitor i used was at 2328)
Fat Weight - 65lbs
Lean Weight - 167.5
Total 232.5
estimated TDEE (RMR+Activity Level)
Sedentary - 2661
Low Active - 3139
Active - 3618
Very Active - 4325
so if i consume say 30% less my goal (3500 cals) 2400 calories that will put me on pace of 2lbs per week (1050 X 7)
we shall see

Well, not all carbs are equal or have equal effects on blood sugar levels and insulin sensitivity. Not eating white flour (esp. not bleached and enriched) or any breads enhanced with corn syrup is a wise choice by her. It also helps keep your calorie counts down while you still consume the fats and protein that build muscle. Aktins itself is a terrible idea, but the paleo/Mediterranean diet is effective and overall very healthy.warehouse wrote:ive seen plenty of people do this. i think its called the 'atkins diet' or some shit. the idea is to not eat carbs.Dev wrote:I met a girl who is into fitness who said that because she is health conscious, when she has a hamburger she doesn't use a bun. I think this thread's sole purpose is to make me feel terrible about myself.

You are not alone. I have lower than I should lung capacity, so I have never been a distance runner/swimmer. It's a little depressing to hear some of my coworkers talking about assembling a team for the marine core marathon, when I know I will struggle to do 10k even with months of training.Monkey_Driven wrote:I think this thread's sole purpose is to make me feel terrible about myself.

I consider myself a fairly active person (walking 18 holes a golf about once or twice a week, walking about 1-3 miles a day, doing pushups/sit ups/pull ups, etc.), but I'm starting to reconsider it.broken iris wrote:You are not alone. Re: The Work-Out Thread
You guys are bumming me out.
Everyone is different. I'm certainly NOT an athlete and I have zero actual talent. But I am dedicated. Several members of my family have battled diabetes, high blood pressure and weight issues their entire lives. My dad could have extended his life if he wasn't obese.
If you are reasonably healthy and feel good about yourself, be happy.

I'm happy. I wish I had half your dedication to working out. I admire your ability to recognize a problem in your family and be active in fighting it. I come from a relatively healthy family so I don't have that incentive.turned2black wrote:You guys are bumming me out.

i knew the atkins diet got debunked, but i dont keep up w/ fad diets very often. in fact ive pretty much ate like a fat kid most of my life, i just played sports and lifted weights so i wasnt fat.broken iris wrote:Well, not all carbs are equal or have equal effects on blood sugar levels and insulin sensitivity. i hear you guys on distance running. id actually like to find a good work out for sprinting. i ran around w/ my brothers dog the other day, and it felt awesome. i also think sprinting works your calf muscles more, but that just may be the way i run.

Zumba at least 4x a week, with sporadic ab workouts. Thought I'd hate it, but it's actually fun and tough if you have the right instructors. Helping my knees a lot, too.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
Just made my reservations for the North Rim for October 6. I'll be spending 2 full days at the South Rim to acclimatize to the elevation before hand this time. Between this and the cooler weather, I figure I'll have a 4:30 in the bag. Now I just need to train better to get that sub-4 hour rim-to-rim run.turned2black wrote:I take this back. As a matter of fact, I think I'm gonna go back to the Canyon in October. I think I can go sub-4.turned2black wrote:I'm gonna stick to road marathons for awhile.
