Brendan really didn't mess with the levels, but he just pulled back a bit on the effects and reverb. The new mix is just a bit crisper. The way we listen to music is so different than 25 years ago. People have gotten used to so much clarity on the top end, and I think he really brought a lot of that out."
This is going to sound terrible, isn't it?
I'm guessing it will sound a lot like the Ten reissue that BoB was involved with. Hoping it doesn't sound like Lightning Bolt

Is this why their records sound terrible now?

"Guys, people don't listen to music like they did back in the old days. It's all iPod speakers and whatnot now."

"Sure, Brendan - do whatever you think, man."

Wouldn't be shocked, honestly.

"Guys, let's make this sound the best for cheaper speakers, and people who have access to equalizers can figure it out from there."

What's this stuff about losing the tapes? Didn't they sue to get the tapes back and win?

Yeah, I believe it was the 2" multitrack tapes they got back (hence the new mix), it's the stereo mixdown tape that's apparently lost.

So basically they have the stems and the new mix - regardless of anything - will be truly new because they don't have the old mix to use. Is that the gist of it?

Neither of those mixes give any impression of having been manned by a professional.

They should've recorded a new song and named it "From the Ashes Of".

Is it just the same demo that's been around for ages? I'm going to be really disappointed if the version of angel of fire is crappy quality.
