Yeah, the NBA is a league where most coaches are entirely replaceable on a never ending 2 year cycle coaching carousel. What, 10% of coaches last a full 3 at this point? No real negative here.

Even a legit game changer of a coach (one of only a few in the league) like Thibs is currently in a pissing match with the FO and could be gone within' a few years. The NBA is a players league and there just isn't enough of a premium on coaching, you guys are right. With that being said, do we really expect Brad Stevens to be able to manage the egos in an NBA locker room? I don't...

Maybe, maybe not. But the odds are pretty strong that with an obvious tank job of a season upcoming for the C's, at worst he's a sacrificial lamb. No better time to swing for the fences on a hire.

The biggest news of the season came a full four months before the season started.

On June 9, 1980, Red Auerbach pulled off the type of trade that had earned him a reputation for thievery in his more than three decades in the league. Auerbach dealt the first and 13th picks in the 1980 NBA Draft to Golden State for the third pick in the 1980 Draft and four-year veteran center Robert Parish.

The Warriors selected Purdue center Joe Barry Carroll with the first pick and tabbed Mississippi forward Rickey Brown 13th. The Celtics took forward Kevin McHale of Minnesota, and thus added Parish and McHale to a frontcourt that already featured Larry Bird and Cedric Maxwell. In one trade, Auerbach had acquired a frontcourt for the next decade.

i believe ESPN/ABC's contract w/ the NBA has more to do with this phenomena... i imagine if the NHL had a deal with ESPN/ABC dwight would be less of a story today.
