Re: generic smashing pumpkins thread
It's a shame Billy despises Paz and Pajo so much. There was potential there.

I like the Zwan record better than anything the Pumpkins did post-"Aeroplane." A great album.

I've never heard any of the Zwan stuff, maybe I'll pick the album up if I find a cheap copy.

I checked and I can pick up the CD for $1.99, so at least one of us is happy.

Does the down under edition include the DVD, too? There were some non-album songs on there that I liked.

Re: generic smashing pumpkins thread
I have no idea, sorry.
I usually try to avoid albums with bonus tracks, DVDs, etc. where I can.
I prefer to have that stuff separate, as a download or something, and keep the album as just the album.

It was just in a regular jewel case, so it wouldn't have gotten in the way or anything. But if it doesn't come with your edition and you're interested, it's on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yassKn6SBRA

I forgot Matt Sweeney was in Zwan. I love his work with Bonnie Billy.

Re: generic smashing pumpkins thread
The CD was mastered in a way that is utterly horrifying. You'll hate it. There are some great songs from this era, and the 2001-2002 period of Zwan is generally considered one of Billy's finest hours when it comes to songwriting...but he abandoned a lot of those songs (I'm guessing due to label pressure, or something) and the Zwan album is not very representative of the quality of the band.Birds in Hell wrote:I've never heard any of the Zwan stuff, maybe I'll pick the album up if I find a cheap copy.
There are a few unofficial box sets out there of the best Zwan stuff. I'll upload a couple of them in a bit.
Edit:
If you want to listen a bit, I recommend the following bootlegs:
* 11/16/2001: Pomona, CA (first show): https://archive.org/details/zwan2001-11-16.mk4.flac16
* 4/07/2002: St. Louis, MO: https://archive.org/details/zwan2002-04-07.shnf
* 2/08/2003: Paris, France [acoustic]: https://archive.org/details/zwan2003-02-08.flac16
* 2/14/2003: Maida Vale Studios: https://archive.org/details/zwan2003-02-14.fm.flac16
* 6/13/2003: St. Poelten, Austria (final show): https://archive.org/details/zwan2003-06-13.fm.flac
Recommended songs: Jesus I, Mary Star of the Sea, A New Poetry, Endless Summer, Spilled Milk, Riverview

I didn't realize Zwan had any songs apart from the album. I'd definitely be interested in hearing that stuff.

There's like 60 or 70. Enough for a 4-5 CD boxset, which may happen at some point.Kevin Davis wrote:I didn't realize Zwan had any songs apart from the album. I'd definitely be interested in hearing that stuff.

This is a song that never got released officially; it was on the soundtrack of a movie called Spun. I've been waiting for some sort of lossless version of this to surface for years and I'm beginning to think it won't ever happen.

Nobody knows for sure but I'd be shocked if there weren't studio or demo recordings of every single song. If not 10 recordings of every song. Plus tons of live versions, rehearsal tapes, etc. Billy recorded everything.Kevin Davis wrote:Studio recordings, or live audience tapes?matt reeder wrote:There's like 60 or 70. Re: generic smashing pumpkins thread
There can't be the same label hang-ups for Zwan that's plaguing the Machina reissue, right? I'm sort of surprised Billy doesn't skip Machina (sad face) and head straight to Zwan for a big box set.matt reeder wrote:Nobody knows for sure but I'd be shocked if there weren't studio or demo recordings of every single song.
