Unrelated, just wondering: do you use the term "reverse racism" regularly?
No.. pretty much never.. this has nothing to do with race.. you're bringing something you read in a book to real life and you want to make it look as accurate to the source material as possible.. I'm not so much mad as her being black as its inaccurate to the source.. it's as if you gave spiderman a pink costume with purple polka dots
Whoever created the Mary Jane Watson character had a specific look thought out for her

Like I said, it's not about losing a white character to a black character.. it's about inaccuracy to the source material.. I'd think it was just as dumb if they cast a white guy to play robbie robertson
Mary Jane Watsons trademark look is her long red hair.. casting a non ginger mjw is like casting a Marilyn Monroe without blonde hair or a beauty mark

I love you, man.
Let me tell you, Homer Simpson is cock of nothing!

There really aren't many characters whose ethnicity is central to the character. A white Black Panther would obviously not make sense. You wouldn't want an Asian guy being the king of a ancient African nation. Bruce Wayne's family history of blue blood wealth and privilege going back to the founding of Gotham would make it difficult for him to not be white. Mary Jane being black really doesn't seem like a big deal. MJ is basically a hot chick that the nerd got. She's Penny on Big Bang. Color doesn't matter.
