Re: The all inclusive Lord of the Rings thread
Its funny how the quality of the orc makeup/effect varies from movie to movie. They aren't that great in the first one, then they look fantastic in the next two, before dropping off a horrible CG cliff in the Hobbit films. By the last one, they are little more than cartoons.

More stupid writing / nothing they could do?? but still
FOTR
Bilbo-I wanted to go back..wander the paths of mirkwood
Eeeehhhh yeah they didn't watch these films before the made the hobbit. Clearly.
Why would he want to go back there? Even in the books mirkwood was a nightmare. In the films? Worse. Far worse.

Watching the extended Two Towers now. On disc two.
I think this actually might be my favourite. I'm Surprised at that.
Except that dumb Aragorn falling off the cliff/resurrection bit. Utterly pointless altogether. Serves no purpose whatsoever.

Just watching that bit with Boromir and his father when the dad dismisses faramir. That whole sequence is shot just like the spirit o the book. It's Shakespearean good.
I know Faramirs uses and they are few....

Two Towers is definitely my least favorite. All the talking tree stuff really weighs it down.

Some people have trouble with the talking trees. I like em. The rest is just big battle stuff. It's a little flat.

I was thinking we will see this rebooted long before Star Wars.

Re: The all inclusive Lord of the Rings thread
I love this trilogy. I remember the excitement I felt in the cinema watching Two Towers just as the Battle of Helms Deep is about to begin, where they're all stood on the top of castle looking out at the Orc army, and then it starts to rain.
I still get goosebumps watching it back.

Re: The all inclusive Lord of the Rings thread
Amazon Plans A “Lord of the Rings” TV Series
Warner Bros. Television and the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien are in talks with Amazon Studios to develop a TV series based on the author’s “The Lord of the Rings” novels. Sources for Variety suggest that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is personally involved in the negotiations, which are still in very early stages.
Warners and the Tolkien estate have reportedly been shopping this new series adaptation idea for a while now with Amazon emerging as the frontrunner in a competitive fight for the rights. The potential deal comes at a complicated time for Amazon which in the past month has cleared out the executive ranks of its TV division including three senior personnel.
However it also fits in with the division’s new mandate to move away from niche and grounded series into large-scale genre programming with broad international appeal. At the same time, Warners and the Tolkien estate settled a massive lawsuit in July and now seem to be willing collaborators again.

Christopher Tolkien has resigned from the Tolkien estate. This could be huge.

Re: The all inclusive Lord of the Rings thread
Interesting news about the series. Can't be worse than the Hobbit trilogy.
I know Christoper Tolkien hated all the movies. While I disagree with him about the LOTR trilogy, I think with the Hobbit movies he was proven partially right after all. Hopefully the Tokien estate will continue to protect the legacy in a proper way.
