I hope I'm not coming across more negatively than I intend to -- I had a great time and for the most part thought they were in excellent form.

I'm choosing to look at it this way: Barring the fact that a few of these songs weren't out yet, the main set and first encore of this show plus "YL" is pretty much exactly what a 2000 show would look like, and that's peak stuff for me. The stuff at the end is just lagniappe, and that which the 3hr. marathon hath wrought.

I thought so -- main set especially, and few if any noticeable lyrical stumbles. I like that he doesn't screw up "Immortality" like he used to.

"Comatose" felt a bit slower than usual -- lost some of its springloaded power, but gained a grungy looseness that I really liked. I know it's PRAMG stuff but I thought "Got Some" and "Comatose" back to back was a high point of the show.

But in all seriousness, 5 of the last 9 were covers (6 of 10 if you count Time). It's a bit much for the last show of your 25th anniversary tour. Plus the Surrender/Alive/All the way run was an exact copy of Saturday. WGN promo reel and all.

For the diehards, Of The Earth, BRY and Don't Gimme No Lip and other Lost Dogs are exciting to see on a setlist. But if you think about the band's POV, how do you create a set that satisfies the people that have been with you for 25 years and yet give newbies a show they'll remember?

If I'm picking the set, you bet your ass Fatal, Red Mosquito, Other Side, Insignificance and etc are on there, but I imagine there's plenty of people who don't know those songs and would rather hear Jeremy, Given To Fly and Better Man in their place. A lot of the sets from the past couple years look like the band is meeting both groups of fans halfway.

he totally screwed up immortality, but played it off well and the song didn't self destruct.

I think Boom slid in a little Paint It Black during his solo. I liked that part.

I noticed a little "yadda ya--cial tears, vessel stabbed..." or something like that, an easy recovery. I was just thinking of those 2000 versions where the song essentially becomes an instrumental he forgets so many of the words.

I am so accustomed to that crash of adrenaline after the slow build that it's almost impossible for he second song not to be a letdown.
