8.5/10. Some plot holes given El's abilities, but they were really able to reproduce that sense of wonder that Sci-Fi had in the 80s, or like others have said those early X-files seasons.

Only one complaint:
Spoiler: show
wooden Jesus, Ryder sucks. I cringed for about half of her 'acting'

I really don't get the X-Files comparisons. *shrugs*

other than them both being sci-fi, i'm sure there are other parallels, but i didn't think about the x-files while watching it
And they say that a hero could save us
I'm not gonna stand here and wait

Me either. The tone felt totally different.

It's not the tone, but the cinematography, sets, and the whole "struggle against the secret experiments of the government while chasing monsters in the woods thing".

I mean, I guess. But that's so many other things, Black Mirror, The Twilight Zone, The Nightstalker, and on and on... and this feels way more like those things to me than The X-Files. And I wasn't particularly reminded of it in the way it was shot either. But that's obviously just me. A lot of others really agree with you.

There are more movies that come to mind for me; the usual ones we've all talked about over and over again.

She was easily the worst part of the show. And that sucks. Because I usually like her a lot.

I was very much rooting for a Ryder-ssance. Could barely take the disappointment.

And now it looks like there'll be no Beetlejuice 2. The hits just keep on coming...

SO GOOD!

That's my rainy day movie. If I'm ever in a bad mood, I put on Reality Bites and it's like the world is a brand new place. That's one of my all time favorite movies.

Pretty much anything with Ethan Hawke is a great rainy day movie, no?

I still listen to that soundtrack from time to time. I'm not much of nostalgist at heart ... but fuck the 90s were great.

Speaking of the 90s... I was really hoping Stranger Things would do a different decade every season. Obviously, that's not gonna happen. But I thought it would be cool if the show as an anthology type show that took on a different decade's feel/tone for each new season.
