Well, to be honest, CNN hasn't been the least bit impartial for going on a year now. Even NPR and Facebook got in the act this weekend by censoring Jill Stein's criticism of Hillary and the fucking disastrous TPP.

They've certainly become less and less impactful as the public has grown increasingly entrenched/protected in its opinions, less patient, less informed, and more inclined to evaluate the candidates as celebrities rather than invest the time required to even know what their actual policies are, let alone the rationale or research around them.

Ironically, this is the same public that then becomes jaded with the results of each election they treated as a combination of football game/reality tv show, and mistakenly equates that skepticism with some kind of experiential insight or wisdom...thus leading to yet more of the above behaviors.

The debates used to be valuable because you couldn't buy them, you couldn't control them, and you couldn't say a bunch of nothing without SOUNDING like you were saying nothing. Now, they're mostly just chances for each side to take two or three sound bytes that they will ad-play out of context for a few weeks on end, as a get out the vote effort for a public that knew who they were voting for on day one.

It sure would be nice if that were the case honestly during the primary process, before we even get to this point. Have a few small debates not just with members of the same party, perhaps no in room audience, maybe even a few stock or public write in questions chosen from a list, maybe a few different targeted demographics to speak to (college age, retirees, working class, business leaders etc.) not all in the same debate. Almost a town hall, without the town being in the physical room. A time clock on the answer times and rebuttals etc.

It would be nice to try and de politicize the process somewhat and try and get into the details and sure maybe lose a few people by getting into the minutiae.

It's just frustrating that every statement is a headline now and or screaming. I want context. I want intelligent, respectful discourse much earlier in the process.
