Albums of 2016

Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

I'm too lazy to post it but what does everyone think of the new Bon Iver?

That Deathbrest song is killer. Not too crazy about the other. Curious about the album though. Kanye is on it.

The other one actually reminded me of Kanye in a way LV.

Which past work are we talking here? The acoustic folk of the debut, or the densely orchestrated pop of the second album? I suppose the essential spirit might be the same, but he's already shown himself capable of constructing songs in radically different fashions. (For the record, I prefer the second album. It just has more replay value for me, and I think the songs are mostly better.)

I just gave a listen to the two new tracks, and I agree with LV, "10 Deathbreast" is significantly better than "22 (Over Soon)". No, I will not be using Justin's title stylization choices for the foreseeable future. "22" just sounds like something transitional, and not fully formed, while "10" has more interesting production choices and sounds like a complete song. These are considered "versions," so I don't know how representative of the album as a whole they are, but I'm hoping it's more like "10" than not.

Yeah, the first two albums didn't do anything for me. But I like Vernon's voice, and I'm curious about the new material.

I did not like the second album. First one was fine but a little bland all things considered.

I love the first Bon Iver album. I understand blandness charge but I love the melodies, the way he plays around with harmony in those open tunings, the fragmented abstraction in the lyrics, and the overall sound of the album. I only listened to the second one a couple times before it fell off my radar but I remember there being a few interesting rhythmic and harmonic elements there. One song sounded like drippy emotional synthpop and another sounded like The Blue Nile. I love all that shit

Been loving the Night Beats album Who Sold My Generation. It's a bit lo fi and a bit garage rock and all around a great listen.

Here's "Last Train to Jordan" which gives you a pretty good taste of what's going on.

Yea? More old school, or more like the AOI records? Or neither?
Im not sure, i mean there is a old school vibe for sure, but feels more cohesive and fresh than the previous one.
