I love the first Bon Iver album. I understand blandness charge but I love the melodies, the way he plays around with harmony in those open tunings, the fragmented abstraction in the lyrics, and the overall sound of the album. I only listened to the second one a couple times before it fell off my radar but I remember there being a few interesting rhythmic and harmonic elements there. One song sounded like drippy emotional synthpop and another sounded like The Blue Nile. I love all that shit

And keeping with the Australian theme, here's the Delta Riggs with Never Seen This Before. I saw these guys supporting the Foo Fighters last year and they put on one of the most fun live sets I've seen. These fellows could be big.

I really like that Camp Cope album. I listened to it a couple months ago after reading Pitchfork's review. I love their energy and their songwriting, and I look forward to seeing what they become as they hone their skills. Great debut album. I'd recommend it to anyone here who likes Hop Along. And I guess Courtney Barnett too, though I like this album way better than Courtney Barnett.

Fantastic Negrito's album "The Last Days of Oakland" is a groovy and smooth trip with some fairly sincere social commentary to boot. Here's Lost in a Crowd from it.

Fantastic Negrito opened for Chris Cornell last July. He was insanely talented but at the end of 30 minutes I was ready for him to be done. That song in the video he did solo acoustic. It's way better with the band.

Some cool words about Polly Jane there Trag. I don't mean to suggest Angel is anywhere near her league but this album is definitely worth a listen and a bit of a grower (if you can get past some occasional naff lyrics as KD pointed out).

Nope - 'Shut Up Kiss Me' was the first thing I heard while perusing this thread and I decided to check her out after hearing of the Bonnie Prince Billy connection.

It's been a busy one so haven't taken to time to find much new music this year. You guys must have a fair idea of my tastes by now - what have I missed that you'd recommend?

These are both from last year but have you checked out Hop Along ("Painted Shut") or Laura Marling ("Short Movie")?

Most of my favorite albums of 2016 have been of the hip-hop/R&B (Rihanna, Chance, Kendrick) or jazz (Mehldau/Redman, Iyer/Smith) varieties. Or other instrumental miscellany (Mogwai, William Tyler).
