Re: The Happy 9/11 Thread!
I was in the military and we didn't know what to do. The confusion that everyone talks about? It all happened. We had to drive 30 minutes to work and when we got there the front gate was pandemonium. The guards were barely letting anyone in, even if you could show ID and that you had a real reason to be there. We eventually received word from HQ to just go home and await further instructions.
While driving to work we were listening to the radio and that's when the towers fell. God, it's hard to drive when you can barely see from crying.

I also heard about it in school. I ran around during lunch hour yelling "IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD, IT'S OVER" and gave my now-best-friend a panic attack

I had just gotten to work. From the time it took me to leave my car to the time I got to the office, it happened. Everyone was asking me if I heard and I'm like "heard what?"

I spent the longest time trying to figure out if it was all some elaborate promotion for an action blockbuster.

Re: The Happy 9/11 Thread!
My friend called me and told me to turn on the tv. Then he came over to my apartment.
I can distinctly remember feeling so much misery about the future, and saying "a lot more people are going to die because this happened," and his response was something to the tune of "yeah, we will kick their asses." It was the new America, in a two sentence exchange.
He's usually a super great guy, though, btw, and was at times a better friend than I probably deserved.

Re: The Happy 9/11 Thread!
We didn't really have TVs in our classrooms in high school, so everyone was just waiting for computer class so they could check things out online. I had computer either last or second to last. So throughout the day, in the halls and in the lunchroom and stuff, I heard all types of rumors and stuff: there was a bomb in the White House, a plane had crashed into Yankee Stadium, there were missing planes all day. When a teacher walked into a classroom to tell another teacher that the towers had just collapsed, I didn't believe him due to all the junk I'd heard. When we finally got to the computer class, we spent the hour watching videos that were the size of postage stamps (it was 2001, after all). I stayed up that night watching news coverage until about 2:00AM.

I was a junior in high school and the first I heard was in math class, third of the day. I overheard somebody talking about a tower that had fallen, but didn't get any of the context. For some reason I thought they were talking about the Eiffel Tower. I learned what actually happened in the following class (history, I believe). The rest of the day there was TV set up in the lobby for anyone to watch what was happening. It was a surreal time for a few days.

Re: The Happy 9/11 Thread!
I was on my back porch smoking weed and listening to Howard Stern.
All you have to do is look up his 9/11 broadcast to hear how I found out.
Then I went inside and listened to the rest of the broadcast with CNN on mute for the visual effect (and because that's what they were watching too).
He blamed it on Osama Bin Laden almost immediately. I remember him yelling "WE'RE UNDER ATTACK!" when the second plane hit. People were saying, "Don't jump to conclusions", and he was like "Come on, get real".
It's freaky to think about how most, if not all, of the planes flew right over me as I was outside.
