I think that looks really cool. Outside of Affleck, again, looking out of his depth as an actor. But I dig the story and the visuals in the trailer. And the rest of the cast is outstanding. I'll definitely see it.tragabigzanda wrote:The new Affleck movie looks pretty bad.

Obvious plot and all. But I think it still looks like it could be cool.

It reads like the plot of a Frank D'Angelo movie

The poster sure makes it look like Ben thinks he's making a new Dick Tracy movie.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Oh. Well, then we are in agreement.tragabigzanda wrote:Well that's my problem exactly. Looks like it could be a good movie, if I didn't have to stare at his stupid face pretending to be a gangster for two hours. The man can direct a good Hollywood movie, for sure. I just wish he'd stop starring in them.durdencommatyler wrote:I think that looks really cool. Outside of Affleck, again, looking out of his depth as an actor. Argo is a good movie. That's all I can say about Affleck as a director.

I understand people's admiration for Argo about as much as I understand why Ben Affleck thought it was a good idea for him to play a Hispanic man.

Re: The Cinematic Motion Picture News Thread
I don't know what to tell you, friend. It's taught. It's well shot. It's well paced. It's gripping. The characters are well drawn. It hits all its beats. He did a great job of building and maintaining powerful tension in a story most of us already knew the ending to.
He wasn't great in it. As always. He miscast himself. But everything else about it showed off how good he can be as a director. I haven't seen his other two films. Based on this one alone, I'd say he's a good director. He's not great. He's not someone I'll freak out about or make sure I see everything he does. But he's a good director.

Yeah, I mean, it's none of those things. And it's also pretty racist. But okay.

Now that I think of it, that movie also had Clea Duvall as an asian lady
