It's the best song I've heard this year.

I just tossed the latest Sun Kil Moon record into my Prime playlist (Steve plays drums on that one). I liked that Disappears record he did well enough. Are there any other Shelley must-hears outside of SY?
I love everything he did with Cat Power. And Thurston´s Psychic Hearts.

Psychic Hearts is great...

That was him on those Cat Power records?!
He is in Dear Sir, Myra Lee and What Would The Community Think. They are pretty acoustic driven, very loose, very cool. Different from SY.

I listened to "The Eternal" again tonight and really enjoyed it. The sound doesn't really suck you in like it does on some of their better albums, but as usual there is some strong guitar interplay and some deep, ethereal harmony going on under the noise. The Lee songs are characteristically great, and otherwise I really like "Leaky Lifeboat," "Poison Arrow," and "Massage the History" (that slide guitar is great, reminds me of Nick Cave's "We No Who U R"). Its biggest weakness is that it starts off with two stinkers and is too Thurston-heavy, with too many of his tunes showcasing that bratty sneer that characterized so many of his most annoying songs in the '90's (I'm lookin' your way, "Youth Against Fascism"). Overall it's a veteran band with the ability to make a good album without trying pretty much doing exactly that. Solid B record.

Watching Rockpalast – Dusseldorf, Germany (Apr-04-1996) right now...man, what a great setlist, and what a great moment for the band. Those years, 1992 til 2000 remain as my favorite from the band.

My favorites are scattered pretty evenly across their career, I think -- "EVOL," "Daydream Nation," "A Thousand Leaves," "Sonic Nurse," "Rather Ripped." An incredibly consistent band, though -- their peaks and valleys were all highly relative.

Yeah, i pretty much all they did, even their experimental albums. And, or course Evol, Daydream and Goo need to be there too...but from Dirty to A Thousand....they were amazing, specially live. And with Jim...my god, what a great moment for being a SY fan.

Was Sonic Nurse their last masterpiece? I really think so.
They approach another level of greatness with that one.

I'll give The Eternal another listen this week, it's been a while.

I think Sonic Nurse and Rather Ripped are both great. If anything, I might give the edge to the latter.
