i'm really not sure where i'd put this album...i think it's a nice, consistent effort...the high points aren't as good as the high points of sbs and wilco the albumtragabigzanda wrote:Yea, I thought so too.lennytheweedwhacker wrote:we aren't the world (safety girl) feels very lou reedish

yeah there's nothing i dislike in my very casual listens...whenever i finally give it a good, thorough listen i'd like to read along the lyrics as i haven't paid much attention to them so fartragabigzanda wrote:Yea, that's a good assessment. Ha, Common Sense might be my least favorite on here. That one or 'Nope'. I really adore 'If I Ever Was A Child', 'Someone To Lose', 'Happiness' and 'Just Say Goodbye'. This album (and Star Wars at well) really grew on me since my last comment. Listened to both quite a bit the last few days.

I really like this album -- the acoustic aesthetic caught me completely off guard, and after two albums of sonics and flourishes, it's a welcome change of pace. I'm still digging into the lyrics but unlike "The Whole Love" and "Star Wars," I do actually feel compelled to dig into them -- Tweedy sounds like he has some stories to tell here, a mixture of scene-setting and philosophizing that really gives the tunes a strong, tangible presence. So far my favorite songs are the first three and "We Aren't the World."

i don't think this album is ever going to blow me away, but it's solid...and i still can't get if i ever was a child out of my head

This just gets better with every listen. I think this will end up ranking pretty highly on my list.

Listening to Schmilco right now. First two tracks are kind of boring on first listen.

"Common Sense" is the first song that's really grabbing me here

What a weird decision to end "Locator" like that.

Re: Wilco | Schmilco [September 2016]
I really enjoyed the last two songs, but overall I wasn't very impressed with this album. Three good songs ("Common Sense", "Safety Girl" and "Just Say Goodbye"), one okay song ("If I Ever Was a Child") and a bunch of songs that left little to no impression (except for how bad "Nope" is). I'll give it another listen later on and see if it improves. This is also the first full Wilco album I've listened to since Wilco (The Album), and I think I actually prefer that one.
