It is less clear to me why someone would do something for shits, particularly if you take "shits" to mean "the shits," the lowbrow cultural euphemism to describe an uncontrollable onslaught of explosive bowel movements. Perhaps there's just a greater number of constipated people in the world than you realize, and they all mean it very literally.
