Sea Change is super mellow (and very good), but if you like Guerro then you should give Midnight Vultures a listen. It's upbeat, funky, and fun!Rangi Guy wrote:I'll give that a listen next.doug rr wrote:you're not human if you don't like sea changeRangi Guy wrote:Aside from a few tracks off Mellow Gold and Odelay - I hadn't given Beck much of a chance. I really like these ones:

I find these one to be fine, but mostly retreads of sounds he's done before:
Guero
Modern Guilt
The Information
And then I really don't like Sea Changes or Morning Phase.

Only two songs in so far, but Sea Change is great!

Re: BECK
Sea Change is by far my favorite Beck album. HIs vocal style just lends to that style really well to me

Re: BECK
I hated Odelay when it first came out. It was a huge disappointment for me. I learned to enjoy parts of it, but I still think it's a turd.
If he had finished the album he abandoned before Odelay, it would have been incredible. A lot of those songs are still unreleased and super rare.
Mutations brought back my faith big time, but then there was Midnight Vultures...another one that doesn't impress me much.
It seems like he has been repeating this back & forth pattern ever since.
I actually like Guero a hell of a lot, and I don't consider it to be of the same ilk as Odelay & MV.

Re: BECK
It was a huge disappointment for me that he went the "Loser" route with "Odelay". I still consider that a huge cop-out.BurtReynolds wrote:Mellow Gold is still an amazing album.
The album that he abandoned was a straight-up depressing "rock" album, with amazing melodies and instrumentation.
Mutations was kind of like this, but acoustic and more upbeat.
