The only reason I even like revenge of the sith is because of Grievous. Otherwise, Christensen shits up that movie too. So, because Hayden isn't in TPM, I agree with you. And as much as I hate Jar jar,.

Jar jar > Hayden's portrayal of Anakin

Jar Jar is horrendous. Really ruins every scene he's involved in. I saw TPM on TV last night and the battle scenes were robbed of any tension by his slap stick bullshit.

Worst than Menace? Yeah, the cast is boring and wooden, the love scenes are amateurish at best, but the finale is pretty cool.

I think the finale LOOKED cool when I first saw it, but in hindsight it just felt like the whole movie was based around having the shot of 100 jedi with lightsabers.
that any of the jedi died to those doofus robots made me wonder how they kept order in the galaxy

Phantom menace is best enjoyed as a kids film despite the trade federation tax bullshit. But things like jar jar and the pod racing are enjoyable if you see it as a kids film. Revenge of the sith comes closest to being a Star Wars film and at least we get to finally see anakin become Vader. Attack of the clones? Pointless. Infuriating. (What is general grievous? How is so easily able to kill Jedi? Awful love story bullshit and the very worst of the cgi she in all the three films in that it's the most blatantly obvious bad cgi).

Darth Maul, Jar-Jar, Qui-Gon, John Williams, and some GREAT set-pieces make TPM enjoyable to me.

See? Attack of the clones is so bad I've wiped it from memory.

Grievous is my most hated sw character.

Phantom is mostly a subpar kid-aimed Star Wars b-side. It's fine at that. Sometimes it's even ok.

Clones is a bullshit mystery noir that can't actually let its detective heroes discover anything, learn about themselves in any way, or grow. All of that plot motion has to happen in the last 40 minutes of movie 3 (good thing this is a trilogy question mark!), so everybody run in place.

Clones has exactly two things to offer the larger narrative (war! marriage!) and it can't afford to give them to you until midway through the end musical number. Like, credits time. It's so bad that when Yoda says something amazingly stupid (this happens a lot), you are relieved by the lack of real people being humiliated onscreen.

Sam Jackson was really out of place in these films too. In that role especially. Had he been a bounty hunter or commander in the army or something it could have been better

Sam Jackson is the purest evidence that all of the Hayden bitching is fucking bullshit. Lucas crushed everybody with his directing. Hayden actually out acted Sam, under those conditions.

Although I guess Sam was already in his "just show up" phase by then (see also: Marvel). So I dunno.

I agree for the most part. The big difference is that Sam Jackson wasn't asked to carry the trilogy. But, yes, what you're saying is totally accurate. Ewan is the only one in these three movies who performs competently. And even he struggles.

If you see Hayden as trying to channel new hope era Luke some of his choices make sense. I don't think his acting is all that horrendous, controlling for the fact that he got many of the worst lines and his story progression makes no sense. He's no less convincing than Natalie Portman in their scenes together. I mean it's not good, but everyone is not good. Even Ewan is, at best, okay. Palpatine is the only person I'd call good, and even there only because he decided to ham everything up and not take it so seriously.
