He has completely skated on costing them Wright for the season.

He's certainly lucked out that they survived it better than expected...that being said, I don't know if I ever want a knuckleballer in the rotation come postseason time

I wasn't that broken up about it because I felt like the clock was about to strike midnight on him anyway, but it doesn't change the fact that Farrell risked his #3 starter in an asinine decision and it cost them that starter for the rest of the season.

I don't disagree I just think I'd be a lot more upset if it was a real #3 starter and not Steven Wright

Can the Sox get Orsillo back instead of reversing the Pomeranz trade? Have we talked about this?

Some fans seem annoyed that Porcello is a front runner in the Cy Young conversation.. they think it's just because of his wins. Those are nice and all, but most of his other stats are very solid as well. Hell, he's walked 30 guys all years. That's where the KILL THE WIN crowd loses me. It's almost like they are devaluing how good he has been BECAUSE he has a lot of wins. Which is just silly. According to ESPN he has no "Cheap Wins" but 3 "Tough Losses"

Good on Ricky P.

A month ago I was anti-Porcello for Cy Young only because Tanaka, Kluber, and Sale had sub 3 ERAs with plenty of innings pitched. But now that's even out a bit and Porcello is right there with the rest of the top tier pitchers. So yeah, Porcello for Cy Young. Also I think a month ago Porcello was 7th in fWAR and now he's 2nd.

fWAR is notoriously bad at rating pitchers.

BUT he's 4th in ERA, 1st in WHIP, Best OPS Against. The K/BB rate is fantastic.

I'd still give it to Verlander, but that might just be to piss off Chris.

Yeah I don't really like any form of WAR for rating a single season, pitching or position player. I usually sort by it though just to group the top guys together and then look at the other stats.

It might be Chris Sale now. He has the low 3 ERA like the rest of them but his K totals and K/9 rate are way up there too.

I like Porcello for Cy Young, not only are his numbers comparable to the other candidates, he has been MASSIVE for this team. Not that those other guys havent been for theirs, but I just cant stress enough the difference he has made for them this season. He has become a true ace.

I think you can make a solid case for any of Porcello, Sale, Verlander, Kluber, or Tanaka.

Of them Porcello has the best k/bb rate.

If Holt gets hurt, do we have to start warming up Sandoval's belts?

And it sounds like they eliminate the Yankees if they hold onto this win. That would be quite a good day.

When your team just clinched the division but the 9th inning gives you an ulcer anyway
