Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

Never heard any of those -- I'll hunt em down tomorrow morning. Thanks!
Awesome. If you like Mellow Gold, you'll love these. Guaranteed.
The "Beercan" single is great too.
It is. "MTV Makes Me Want to Smoke Crack" is also on my Loser single. IIRC, it is the UK version.

This was 1995, and the internet wasn't all out crazy yet. As far as I know, most of those songs have only surfaced in obscure live versions, such as a JJJ broadcast that seems to be pretty uncommon even today. Another two are on a 7" that was only 100 copies, and they are even taken from a crappy cassette there.
Huh. I figured that most bootlegs and such would have made the jump to the computer when more methods of creating digital versions of tapes and records became prevalent.

Guero is probably my favorite of his pop/rock albums. I even bought the 5.1 deluxe version - It's as awesome as you think.

Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:I hated Odelay when it first came out. It was a huge disappointment for me. I learned to enjoy parts of it, but I still think it's a turd.

If he had finished the album he abandoned before Odelay, it would have been incredible. A lot of those songs are still unreleased and super rare.

Mutations brought back my faith big time, but then there was Midnight Vultures...another one that doesn't impress me much.

It seems like he has been repeating this back & forth pattern ever since.

I actually like Guero a hell of a lot, and I don't consider it to be of the same ilk as Odelay & MV.
"Midnite Vultures" is probably my least favorite of his major releases -- much like "Stupid Mop, "Bugs," etc. disproportionately inform "Vitalogy"'s reputation as a "weird, experimental" album, I think the opening and closing tracks on "Midnite Vultures" kind of incorrectly frame the album as this no-holds-barred, good-time dancefloor album, when in reality a lot of what comes between is just kind of midtempo, plastic, and average. I do really like "Beautiful Way" though.

 Not my favorite, but it's great.
It's so groovy and fun and catchy as all fuck. There are better Beck songs but few (if any) that I enjoy listening to as much as that one.

I love "Jackass." The sample of Them's cover of "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue"' is spot-on. I feel like "Odelay" is full of little tidbits like that.

I need to revisit Odelay. It's always been pretty far down on my Beck rankings. But it's been ages since I've even tried listening to it.

Jackass might be my favorite Beck song. The single has a cool version called Lloyd Price Express that I like a lot too.

Spinning through these this morning.

Alcohol is great, reminds me a lot of Ramshackle, which has always been one of my favorites.

Corvette Bummer is fun, but nothing that wasn't already represented on Mellow Gold.

Fume is a trip. The first half is sort of whatever, but then I love that he engineers a more organic song breakdown in the middle that's like a precursor for similar moves on Odelay. And then the second half of the song is disgusting and awesome.

Steal My Body Home is ok. Very druggy.

I really like Soul Suckin Jerk (Reject) -- I could maybe be persuaded it's better than the album version, given a few more listens.

MTV Makes Me Want to Smoke Crack is fun. As a song, it's definitely familiar territory for Beck. But man, the lyrics are great and I really miss that sense of irreverence from him. I feel like he sort of outgrew that stuff, got all serious on Sea Changes and Morning Phase, and is now gonna try to recapture that on the new album. But my hopes aren't too high.

Thanks guys! A bunch of new/old Beck songs was a great way to start my morning.
I'm glad you were able to check them out! It's always fun to discover material that you never knew was there. I think your reaction and description of the songs pretty much matches how I feel about them. I remember being 14 or 15 years old and loving those songs. It's probably been several years since I've listened to any of them. I just might have to bust of that CD tonight.
