Im just sad because i feel Feig lost a great opportunity. He made a very bland and safe movie with a interesting cast. And he didnt pushed that cast to make something good.
I actually don't totally disagree with you here. I do think there was some wasted opportunity. I do think the movie is a tad safe and obvious. I just don't think the final product was as bland, boring, and bad as you do.

And I think the social aspects/implications of the film (intentional or otherwise) elevate it. It's not a perfect film, and it did miss on some things. But I had fun and I'll gladly buy it on Blu Ray when it comes out. It's a movie I look forward to watching over and over again.

Thats why maybe i dont feel like this movie is special.
I dont think the ¨social aspects¨ are real.... I feel its just another case of hollywood playing it safe and obvious and trying to pass it as ¨an important movie¨.

I don't think Hollywood tried to pass it as anything other than a Ghostbusters movie.

I think they used the stupid initial backlash about the cast and present this movie as a one that mattered because of the genre of their leading cast.

There was a definite, documented media strategy to market this film a certain way. You keep saying you didn't see that, and maybe you somehow missed it, but I don't know how you could have missed it: It was a huge story this summer.

If you find it similar to another character she's played, that's fine. I don't see why that's an automatic negative. She was good in Skeleton Twins. She's good in this. Plenty of actors play the same kind of character in multiple films. Big whoop. If it's good, if the choices are consistent, and the performance makes sense, I don't really care. The other two leads are really great. And Hemsworth is outstanding.

As far as Feig's comments, I don't care. If the movie was supposed to be scary, then it failed on that score. I didn't expect it to be scary. The original isn't scary, so I didn't think this one would be. I'm sorry Paul mislead you. I never saw/heard/read those comments. Maybe that would have made me feel differently. But I don't except CGI ghosts in a comedy reboot to be particularly frightening.
Oh. We have different views on this too...for me, he was just dull and boring and i actually felt bad for him during those dance scenes.
To each their own, friend. He cracked my shit up.

He was so good. Not Jason Stathem in Spy good, but very good nevertheless.

I can see not loving this, obviously, but there was nothing in this that should have inspired any sort of strong negative feelings. It was a competent, enjoyable, somewhat safe action comedy

I'd agree that it was safe, and mildly enjoyable. Nothing memorable in it though

Any Paul Feig movie is deserving of strong negative feelings.

The media, Twitter & special interest groups absolutely pushed this movie that direction/rewrote the narrative. I didn't see what I would call "Hollywood" doing that. The actual marketing of the film was straight forward. I'd still bet Feig had no idea how progressive his film was as he was making it.

Some of the anti-feminist backlash stuff obviously made it's way into the film. But what I'm talking about goes far beyond that. It's oversimplifying to reduce the conversion to internet trolls and "WOMEN CAN'T BUST NO GHOSTS! GRRRR"

Yeah. I loved it. It was annoying in parts sure but overall a good laugh. More a comedy than a ghostbusters but I can move past that. Seemingly most weren't able to.

Watched this with the kids today. My ten year old is really into Ghostbusters. They liked it. I was kinda ready for it to be over by the end there but it was OK. Kate Mcwhatshername was funny in spots. No Moranis cameo?
