Re: 10th album rumors and speculation
I think most who have a problem with it is that it was released on an album not that long ago instead of just played live. But we don't know if there will be a uke song on it, or what it will sound like, so for me, i don't love the idea of reusing a song, but Im interested in seeing what they are able to do with itharmless wrote:I may be wrong but I thought Ten had stuff dating from Bad Radio. Vitalogy was the first bad radio song (and only). It is entirely possible porch or release were things he wrote prior to those sessions.
Leash was written during the ten sessions (or shortly after) and played live with some regularity before vs.

I'm kind of thinking Citizen would've been a cool title for a PJ album. Ed seems to write pretty well when he's being patriotic, unlike most of the world.

Yeah, thought of that. I get people feeling different about a song which has basically been officially released twice. I guess I'm looking forward to a reworking of a song that I don't think they can ruin...Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:I think most who have a problem with it is that it was released on an album not that long ago instead of just played live.harmless wrote:I may be wrong but I thought Ten had stuff dating from Bad Radio. no no I meant never played anytime by Eddie including on the day of the recording. any more than once is not fresh enough for me.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:I think most who have a problem with it is that it was released on an album not that long ago instead of just played live. Re: 10th album rumors and speculation
I really can't understand why the inclusion of Sleeping By Myself (if, in fact, it is on the album) has caused so much hand-wringing.
I'm pretty sure it:
a. won't feature the ukulele (at least, not prominently), and
b. won't sound anything like the previously released version
So what's the deal? It's one of the stronger songs from that record, I'd love to hear how the band could fill it out.
As I pointed out somewhere in this mammoth thread, the period in which the song was written overlaps with the time the band were working on this new album - it's possible the band version was recorded well before the release of Ed's 'Ukulele Songs'.

Re: 10th album rumors and speculation
well technically the only previously recorded example of this is betterman. Can't Keep was clearly written as an eddie solo song before the band got to it. That's really all we have to go off of. And those were both smashing successes. Gone, Speed of Sound, The End, and Unthought Known were played by eddie (and two demoes were recorded/released) before the release of their respective albums, but those were also songs Eddie presumably wrote while the band was in new album mode, no?BurtReynolds wrote:would just rather hear something new is all. plus, if history teaches us anything, the results are usually terrifying.

and then there's the other category of songs that are played live by Pearl Jam and are present during previous recording sessions that didn't make an album at inception (Brain of J and Of The Earth). are there others in this category? Navy Bean? Sirens?stip wrote:well technically the only previously recorded example of this is betterman. Can't Keep was clearly written as an eddie solo song before the band got to it. Habit, Lukin, and Red Mosquito may also fall in under that list. Same with I am Mine and Parting Ways
