Unlike "Live on Ten Legs," I am surprised how often I find myself reaching for this.

There is some crap on the second disc, and their choice to use lyric-flubbed versions of "Black" and "Last Exit" is baffling to me. But for the most part I think it's a great variety of tracks, with some inspired sequencing on the first disc especially (the "Not for You" through "Just Breathe" run is a really enjoyable listen for me). The closest PJ have come to a "bootleg series" type release. Coulda been better sure, but it always coulda been better....

That book is still sitting on a shelf in my office. Never opened yet because I know when I do I'll never be able to put it down and I don't have the time.

I don't think I knew there was an album.

I wonder if anyone has ever gotten the PJ20 logo tatted on their right forearm or something.

The book is pretty good but I fear you may be overestimating how deep and engaging it is.

As is the selection of RVM from LA 2009 with a pretty bad fuck-up coming out of the bridge. Cameron Crowe was probably at that show or something.

He was, and he was probably drunk or something. I don't get it either.

But take the best performances on the two discs and they make one very solid disc. This is actually the last PJ release I've bought that wasn't a bootleg.

This album is worth it for Acoustic#1 alone.

The first disc is fine at it is, being the soundtrack for the movie.
The second disc could have (or should have ;) ) been better. The first eight tracks there are all demos and stuff, those are cool. All the live (or soundcheck) recording are also in the movie and in most cases released on bootlegs. They could have added more interesting demos. That Chinese instrumental would have been nice to have here, or 'Ive got A Feeling' or just any other demo..Missed opportunity..

It reminded me of The Kids Are Alright for its patch work approach to sequencing I just wish PJ20 had more definitive versions of song like TKAA does.

I imagine it would feel more that way if we didn't already have a bajillion live versions of each song. I think the official bootleg program has overall been an awesome thing, but I think something I've learned from it is that PJ doesn't really have "definitive" versions of most songs. Really most versions of their songs sound pretty much the same.
