Haha, check these out dkfan:

Danny Brown-XXX
Kendrick Lamar-Section 80; Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City
Cadence Weapon-Breaking Kayfabe
Death Grips-Ex-Military; The Money Store; No Love Deep Web (these guys are a lil weirder/noisier but I love them)
Cannibal Ox-The Cold Vein
El-P-I'll Sleep When You're Dead; Cancer 4 Cure

Those are my favorites from the last 5-10 years, there's a lot I left out too.

His latest release is just unreal. Dude's gotta be from outer space.

I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd.

New Danny Brown is pretty great. Lots of weird shit going on, and then some pretty standard stuff as well. It if doesn't make you laugh/want to jump off a bridge a few times, you're probably dead inside.

Wasn't there some big discussion on here about hip-hop and rap not being the same? I can't remember if that was here or on the MTV message board

Aside from the usual suspects (Wu-Tang, Nas, Beasties, Tribe, etc), some of my favorite stuff includes Handsome Boy Modeling School, Dr. Octagon, Peanut Butter Wolf, Quasimoto, and Jay Electronica.
I forgot about Dr Oct, I don't think Dr. Octagonecologyst has left my cd player in months, love that album

It wasn't great to me. I thought Pusha's solo album from a few years ago had some excellent stuff on it though.

And can we please not get into the rap/hip-hop thing again. They are the same. The first rap song ever is called "Rapper's Delite" and starts with the lines "hip-hop, hip-hop"...like, seriously. I've never heard an even halfway coherent argument or classification as to how they're different.

They are one in the same, but I do think there are sub genres to HipHop/Rap i.e horrorcore, west coast, east coast etc
