I feel like Johnny Guitar and The End are the two main takeaways. There's some parts of other songs that I like, but those are really the only two winners.

The only thing that I hate about Pearl Jam is the modern day heavy breathing Ed singing on certain tunes. Sure, I dislike my fair share of songs, but hate is a strong word and should only be used when referring to creepy Ed singing voice.

ATW - Loved that little snippet they teased; liked the full tune; now, years later, I can listen to it every so often.

UK - I dunno, I never disliked this song. Actually like it - among the best from Backspacer, I think.

High Five!!

also, KD, i agree the album is uneven after that opening run, though Force of Nature is my favorite song on the album
I know I shouldn't talk, like at all, because I like Amongst the Waves so much. But god I do not understand the love for Force of Nature.

Opposite. Force of nature is the best song they've written since Yield.
Amongst the waves fails all over. Too much trying to sound like pearl jam and failing by forcing it. It's play count (only 42 times played) vs unthought knowns play count (123 times)
Makes that point. UK is a truer more natural song to PJ. ATW should be but just isn't.

Obviously, I disagree and most everyone else agrees with you. Which is why I said I had no right to talk. My point still stands. I will never understand the love for Force of Nature.

Can't keep is the only song coming straight to mind that might challenge that. Either version. Even then it fails against the narrative in force of nature.

There's a beautiful loose but intent energy in force of nature that pearl jam hasn't managed to conjure in a long time. Maybe in puzzle and games.

Personally, I'd say every single song on Binaural is better than Force of Nature, for one.

Binaural was their worst album at the time, until they released the subsequent ones (all of which were worse again), but every song on it is still leagues better than Force of Nature.

Force of Nature is one of the best songs from Backspacer but most of Binaural (maybe all of it), Riot Act and S/T is better.

that lyric in Force of Nature: "I am captain of the al dente pen 15 club" is one of Ed's more impressive allegories for the challenges facing women in the 90s; waves; and love
