It'll be pretty wild if it turns out that the repubs misguessed and their constituents were all #teamtrump in this.

Only 8% of polled Trump supporters in Ohio think less of him after the tape leak. Which is not to say they aren't still in his corner, mind you.

Meanwhile, he's actively encouraging retribution against the Republicans who have turned on him.

I kinda wonder if this put the party in a 'no way to win' scenario when it comes to keeping the House. Large scores of their base are angry, I have to imagine their moderates are getting fatigued and defeatist, and yet if the suits had all refused to condemn this tape, they would have destroyed their brand for decades.

I also wonder/worry a bit about how all these people will respond if the Republicans do manage to get Trump to step down, or when (let's not say if) he loses. They're still convinced they are the majority of the population, and are paranoid as fuck.

Trump will never ever step down. If only out of self preservation. His hardcore supporters would turn on him like rabid dogs and at this point they are all he has left. Really the best case scenario for Trump is the Party finds a way to kick him off the ballot. He would be a hero to the shit kickers and could live off that for the rest of his life.

I think he might be sold on it if he would benefit in a way that matters to him. But I also don't think it matters. I'm not worried about the politics of it all. The Republican structure has collapsed. That's already happened. I'm worried about how the fringiest of his fringe maniacs will respond to what I now believe is inevitable: his failure to become president. I'm sure they will believe that it was stolen from them in their moment of glory. I'm sure they will be angry (they always are). And I'm sure they will think that the country has their back.

And they may well be feeling all this while also waking up to a world where the Democrats have the presidency, the house, and the court.

Basically, though, if Preibus or someone figured a way for him to walk away without admitting defeat, without looking like a loser (in his own mind), and where doing so would also help repair the damage to his brand and businesses, I think he'd ditch his supporters in a minute. And probably be talking shit about them next week.

I think the best possible thing that could happen for the democrats is for republicans to splinter into multiple parties. He should try.

A multi party system is better but you will always have the traditional two main parties coming out on top in cyclical terms. It really would be a good healthy step for democracy in America though to have that variety. All That would Change is that in a real sense, each faction along the spectrum from left to right would have a name and a manifesto but that would be good I think.

It'd be great political theater for him to say, "The senate GOPers said they wanted the next President to pick the next Supreme Court justice; they did not keep their word. I said I wanted Merrick Garland to be the next Supreme Court justice; I'm going to keep my word. Keep this in mind when voting for congress in 2018. Obama out!"
