I've listened to the Story and Star Wars lectures up through Clones. These are fantastic. I have a fundamental disagreement with him in regards to his emphasis on what is or is not Star Wars. But I get what he's saying. And in the context of that idea, I don't disagree with him. But I hate the idea at a base level. I can't imagine an argument that could sway me toward that way of thinking, whether we're talking about Star Wars or Star Trek or whatever else.

But, putting that aside, I love his take on these films. I love looking at them from a story structure standpoint and I think he's dead on about 98% of the time.

Made some sense to me. Though, again, he's starting from this idea of speculative fiction not being based in the real world and being purely imagination, which I don't agree with. The definition of speculative fiction that I've always been taught and used is that, speculative fiction differs from science fiction (not that one is a sub-category of the other) in that speculative fiction is based in the real world and speculates possible likely futures. Think, Margaret Atwood.

So, I don't totally agree with the foundation of that part of the discussion. But within his own breakdown I think I agree with his definition.

His 2 breakdown episodes of force awakens were both so brilliant. The whole thing about the new hope comparisons and idea that 'were standing in the same place but were looking the opposite way'. Stuff like that made me see it in whole new ways I hadn't thought of.

Also he's planning a series on lord of the rings both books and films. I'm definitely up for that. He really knows his stuff.

I have no idea. I'm talking about Alastair's Storywonk series called Story and Star Wars. He does one lecture on each film and between the two trilogies he did a live podcast where he answers questions and stuff.

I do disagree with him a bit on Jar Jar's arc. Maybe he's right but I'd love to talk to him about it in person.
